Vocabulary/language:
Plaster: A soft mixture of lime with sand or cement and water that form a smooth hard surface when
dried
Illusion: A deceptive appearance or impression that distorts the senses
Acrylic Paint: A fast-drying paint made of pigment suspended in acrylic polymer emulsion
Thumbnail Sketch: A small drawing on paper used to explore multiple ideas quickly
Color Theory: The collection of rules and guidelines regarding the use of color in art and design

DISCUSSION: (5 minutes)
o Introduce new project
o Show slideshow images
o Give instructions for sketchbook thumbnails
o Give demonstration
DEMONSTRATIONS: (5 minutes)
o Vaseline hands that will be plastered
o Doctor/nurse/patient style demo
o The hand being made on your hand is the one that you will paint on
DESIGN/WORK SESSION: ( minutes)
o Students will get sketchbooks out and work on thumbnails until the end of class
o Students should have a closer sense of what they want to do for their project
CLEAN UP: (2 minutes)
o Make sure names are on your sketches/sketchbooks
o Collect

o Tomorrow, we’ll start making our plaster hands with our groups
