Instructional Software
Representation: I will use BrainPOP videos to show the students about the American symbols. BrainPOP is
accessible in many language that can be beneficial for students who are English learners and will allow them
to understand the content being introduce. BrainPOP offers many videos and activities that help keep
students engage in the content being taught.
Action and Expression: After the students are done with the activities and watching the video on BrainPOP on
American symbols, I will allow students to share what they have learn and to start thinking about what their
favorite symbol is. Then the students will be giving the opportunity to choose a symbol and decide what
materials they would like to use to produce a replica of their American Symbol chosen.

Lesson idea implementation: The lesson will teach students about American symbols and what they stand
for. Students will need to reflect on the activities and videos to be able to choose a symbol. The student will
use the information obtained from the activities and videos. They will use classroom materials to build a
replica of the symbol they choose. This activity will take two blocks of social studies to allow for enough time
to complete the symbols. The students will be assessed by their finish replica and information they can
express about their symbol.

The students will have the opportunity to present their symbols and talk about what they stand for to their
peers. They will take turn and input on things their peers might have missed when sharing information on
their symbols.

Reflective Practice: To further the learning of students, I will allow them to make another symbol if they have
enough time or while we wait for the rest of the class to be done.
