MSc Global Health Social Welfare 2018 - 2020

The goal is to promote a spirit of oneness and the ability to assist one another in times of
sorrow and happiness among class members.

Objectives and functions


Membership
- Membership shall be open to all students enrolled in the Msc in Global Health class of
2018 with interest in supporting and encouraging social activities such as funerals,
weddings and birth of a child.

Ceasure
- An individual may cease to be a member at any time from death, withdrawal from the
Msc Global Health 2018 – 2020 cohort programme and failing to pay the specific
contribution for 2 consecutive months.
- Specified membership fee is K500 paid monthly.
Note: Those who may wish to contribute more than their specified contribution may do
so.
- In case of ceasure of membership, member shall not be refunded of his/her
contributions.

Duties of the social welfare committee


- Shall assist in buying of gifts for weddings and birth of baby.
- Shall assist in wedding attendance and gift presentation.
- Shall assist in moral support to bereaved and make necessary funeral arrangements and
communication in collaboration with the class representatives.
- Shall assist in communications concerned with well-being of members.
- Shall update members of financial reports.

Benefits
- Upon the member’s death
The bereaved family shall be given a minimum condolence money amounting to
K20,000 cash plus a maximum of K20,000 which will be given to staff escorting for
logistics.
- Death of the member’s dependents, spouse or close relation
The member shall be given a minimum condolence money amounting to K10,000 and a
maximum of K10,000.00 for logistics.
Note: close relation - parent and siblings.

- Weddings and birth of baby


When a member is doing engagement, wedding or bridal shower, he/she will choose
which function to be honored with a gift.
In case of the engagement/bridal shower/wedding of a member or the baby of a baby
to a member, the committee shall purchase a gift amounting to a minimum of K20,000.

- In time of sickness
Any member admitted at any hospital or ill at home (case by case basis).
Any member who is ill shall be visited in a maximum of two times per financial year.
The member shall be given K5,000 when visiting him/her.
In case of the dependent’s illness, the member shall be given K2,000 once in a year.
