Child Passenger Safety-Heatstroke

National Heatstroke Prevention Day is July 31, 2018, so “Look Before You Lock!” National
Heatstroke Prevention Day is a great way to make people more aware and give tips on how to
remember that your child is in the back seat of your vehicle.

As of 1998, there have been reported 751 children that have died of heatstroke. That is a
significant amount and there have been several ways to improve those situations so incidents like that
do not happen as frequently. Going along with that, 9 children have died in 2018 and a total of 42
children have died in 2017 all due to heatstroke. The average of 37 children per year since 1998 have
died because of being left in a hot vehicle. Those numbers are extremely high, so there have been tips
shared to numerous people to help prevent those situations from happening.

To prevent those incidents from occurring, keep your vehicle locked at all times so a child does
not go inside and suffer from a heatstroke. Put an important object or even just a stuffed animal, such
as a teddy bear, in the back so you remember to get your baby. Another great tip to take advantage of is
setting a reminder on your phone so you will not forget about your child. Always look twice before you
lock your vehicle. Even if it is not a sunny day outside, do not leave your baby in your car. Your child
could still suffer from a heatstroke on a cloudy day.

There are so many ways that you could prevent your child from suffering from a heatstroke.
