XXIX AIFUCTO STATUTORY CONFERENCE

SHIRDI, MAHARASHTRA
Hosted by
SAVITRIBAI PHULE PUNE UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE TEACHER’S ORGANISATION
SPPUCTO
01.09.2017
Dear Friends,
Greetings from the All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organizations (AIFUCTO) and
Savitribai Phule Pune University and College Teacher’s Organisation (SPPUCTO)

It’s a great pleasure to announce that the 29th Statutory Conference of the AIFUCTO will be held at Shirdi,
(Maharashtra) on 18th – 20th December, 2017.

We cordially invite delegates and observers from the affiliated organizations of the AIFUCTO to participate in
this Conference.

The AIFUCTO Conferences are an occasion for the teachers from all over the country to deliberate upon the
activities of the organisation, to analyse the educational scene in the country and in the world. It is crucial for
the teachers to participate in the emerging educational scenario. The theme of the Seminar is
“Reforms in Higher Education: Challenges and Opportunities."
The Conferences occupy a very important place in AIFUCTO movement since 1962.The Conferences
provide the opportunity to discuss many important issues before us and we request you to attend this conference
to make your valuable contribution to set the path of higher education in the right direction. A special feature of
this Conference is a thorough discussion on the Proposed New Education Policy. The students & the teachers
being the most important stake holders in the ongoing discourses, we have a very special role to review the
proposals of changes & make specific suggestions to the policy makers.

With the new government in the centre, we are expecting some positive measures in the interest of teachers. It is
a matter of great concern that the Govt.for the first time in the history, has denied any dialogue with the
teachers’ associations. There is total absence of governance in higher education. All the decisions of UGC
regarding teachers’ service conditions have been kept in cold storage. Inspite of continuous AIFUCTO
agitations such as demand day, Black day, Dharma, Protect March and court arrest programme in Delhi, there is
no expected progress.

The total silence on the part of the government is threatening to the movement. Hence this Conference
will decide on the future course of the AIFUCTO movement.

There are extremely important issues before us and we want all our affiliates to make contribution to the
AIFUCTO movement. The AIFUCTO, which is in the vanguard of the teachers' movement, has a significant
role to play and your whole-hearted participation will help in deciding our future course of action.

About Shirdi:

Shirdi is a town located in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra state. Shirdi is famously known as the home of
the late 19th century saint Sri Sai Baba. The Sri Saibaba Sansthan Trust located in Shirdi is second richest
temple organizations in India.

Sai Baba, was an Indian spiritual master who is regarded by his devotees as a saint, a fakir, a satguru and an incarnation
(avatar) of Lord Shiva or lord Dattatraya. He is revered by both his Hindu and Muslim devotees during, as well as after his
lifetime.
According to accounts from his life, he preached the importance of realization of the self, and criticized love
towards perishable things. His teachings concentrate on a moral code of love, forgiveness, helping others,
charity, contentment, inner peace, and devotion to the God and guru. He stressed the importance of surrender to
the true Satguru, who, having trod the path to divine consciousness, will lead the disciple through the jungle of
spiritual training.

Sai Baba also condemned distinction based on religion or caste. His teaching combined elements of Hinduism
and Islam: he gave the Hindu name Dwarakamayi to the mosque in which he lived, practised both Hindu and
Muslim rituals, taught using words and figures that drew from both traditions, and took Samadhi in Shirdi. One
of his well-known epigrams, Allah Malik (God is King) and Sabka Malik Ek (One God governs all), is
associated with both Hinduism and Islam. He is also known to have said Look to me, and I shall look to you.
Sai Baba encouraged his devotees to pray, chant God's name, and read Holy Scriptures. He told Muslims to
study the Qur'an and Hindus to study texts such as the Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita, and Yoga Vasistha. He was
impressed by the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita and encouraged people to follow it in their own lives. He
advised his devotees and followers to lead a moral life, help others, love every living being without any
discrimination, and develop two important features of character: devotion to the Guru (Sraddha) and waiting
cheerfully with patience and love (Saburi). He criticized atheism. His teachings appeal Christian, Shikhs and
others also. His philosophy matches to all religious preaching’s which applies the values of global humanity. He
had knowledge of herbal medicines. He fed starved people and medicated diseased people. Sai Baba
emphasized the importance of performing one's duties without attachment to earthly matters and of being
content regardless of the situation

He used to stay in Temple as well as in Mosque for alternate days. Around this time he adopted his famous
style of dressing, consisting of a knee-length one-piece Kafni robe and a cloth cap. The word 'Sai' refers to a
religious mendicant but can also mean 'God'. In several Indian and Middle Eastern languages the term 'Baba' is
an honorific signifying grandfather, father, old man or sir. Thus Sai Baba denotes Holy Father, saintly father or
(venerable) poor old man.
