-It detect movement and acceleration which are interpreted by the brain to create a sense of balance

-It collect sound and transform it into directional and other information. Like a funnel, it amplifies the sound
and directs it to the auditory canal
-It opens and closes in response to changes in ambient air pressure in order to equalize pressure in the
middle ear.
-This is one of three ossicles in the middle ear which transmit sound from the tympanic membrane (ear
drum) to the inner ear. It receives vibrations from the tympanic membrane and transmits this to the incus.
-Play a role in transmitting sound waves to the inner ear (the cochlea)

-It transmits sound vibrations from the incus to the oval window, a membrane-covered opening to the inner
ear

-A bony canal for the ear canal, a tube running from the outer ear to the middle ear. .
- Also known as the acoustic nerve. It is the sensory nerve that transfers auditory information from the
cochlea to the brain.
-Also called eardrum, thin layer of tissue in the human ear that receives sound vibrations from the outer air
and transmits them to the auditory ossicles, which are tiny bones in the tympanic (middle-ear) cavity.
-is the sense organ that translates sound into nerve impulses to be sent to the brain

III. FAMILIARIZING THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS FOR HEARING AND BALANCE: Written below were diagnostic tests

Ear Description S/S Management/

Problem Treatment
It is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears.
It i nvolves the sensation of hearing sound when
no external sound is present.
It is a sick feeling triggered by movement. It
occurs in a car, bus, train, plane, or boat. It can
occur on amusement rides or virtual reality
experiences. Seeing the movement of others or
things can trigger it. It is an imbalance between
what you see and what you feel
It is generally thought to be due to debris which
has collected within a part of the inner ear. It is a
common cause of dizziness.
An ear poisoning which results from exposure to
drugs or chemicals that damage the inner ear or
the vestibulo-cochlear nerve (the nerve sending
balance and hearing information from the inner
ear to the brain)
An inflammation of the inner ear that is often a
complication of otitis
media. It is caused by the spread ofbacterial or vi
ral infections from the head or respiratory tract i
nto the inner ear.
Also known as vestibular schwannoma, is a
noncancerous and usually slow-growing tumor
that develops on the main (vestibular) nerve
leading from your inner ear to your brain.
A disorder of the inner ear that can lead to dizzy
spells (vertigo) and hearing loss. In most cases,
Meniere's disease affects only one ear.
