SKETCHING
Drawing and sketching are central to the
art of animation and can be crucial tools
in designing and developing original
stories, characters and layouts.
Animation requires essential sketching,
technical drawing and ideation
techniques. You get to learn about using
simple shapes and drawing them into
figures and animals, constructing
characters, drawing the 'scapes: land,

PROJECTS
CHARACTER DESIGN
& 2D ILLUSTRATION
Character Design is about creating new,
original characters for a purpose. The
range of character design hierarchy can
go from extremely graphic (like “Hello
Kitty”) to very photo-realistic (as with CG
animated characters like the “Hulk” in
the Avengers film series). A character
can be based on a definition from a
story or script as would be the process in
Feature Films, TV Series, Video Games,
Children’s Books, Web Animation,
Comic Books, Comic Strips, or even
Licensing or Toy Design.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
Graphic design is all around
us, in a myriad of forms, both
physical and virtual. This
creative field is considered a

communication as well as
communication design.
Graphic designers use a
combination of words,
typography, symbols, and
images to create a visual
representation of ideas,
messages and experiences.
Designing graphics is about
the art and practice of
planning and projecting those
ideas with visual and textual
content.

STUDENT
PROJECTS
SCULPTING
Clay Sculpting or clay modeling is
regarded as a highly artistic style for
animation. It allows for the maximum
amount of creativity from students,
through the tips, tricks and techniques
used in crafting clay models for
animation. It gives them a better
perspective on shapes, characters, and
expressions. It sharpens multiple details
like sizes, proportions, space, textures
and colours in a 3D clay character. The
traditional clay sculpting breathes life
into a creation. The surface texturing
through realistic wrinkles, scars, hair, fur
etc allow for an exciting new way of
creative expression. It essentially
supports the development of patience
and focused working in the learners.

IMPORTANCE OF ACTING
IN ANIMATION
As an animator you’re essentially
an actor with a computer and
some software. Being an
animator really adds a whole new
level of complexity to traditional
movie acting because not only do
you need to create a performance
for this character but you also
have to think about every little
action they take.
