Statement of intent: Georgia Stacey

I have chosen particular brief two. Brief 2 was to create a 3-minute pilot sequence for a music
magazine radio show and a working website, to which I believed this brief would be far more
intriguing to me in comparison to other briefs that were portrayed. This is because in consideration
to the younger generation as a student, media and radio has a big influence on society and people in
their teen years and as they get older, especially when thinking about the likes of radio. I had
thorough ideas for the radio brief as I could come up with far more stimulating ideas which can be
incorporated into my work. We are exposed to daily radio intakes from the like of radio 1, heart;
capital etc. An audience would have a thorough form of direct contact with stations via twitter,
texts, and emails. I believe the ideas I have will express the genre of my radio magazine show better
than a music video would. I think that it will be intriguing to look into how radio magazine
programmes are made.

To research for my main task of the radio show I will interpret ideas from online websites, I am
going to use BBC radio, and pilot magazine shows such as pitchfork and gorilla versus bear to
preview previous shows. This can help me gather helpful ideas for my own individual show; this will
be done by following similar genres of magazine show. This will therefore help me see the typical
conventions in a radio show and I can incorporate some of them into the show I shall create. When I
begin to plan my products, I will generate a script to direct me to the production of it. This is a vital
part of planning, as it will allow me to decide on live bands, sound effects and music that I want to
include. It will additionally demonstrate how long each section of the show should last.

In my planning process, I will create a brainstorm/ spider diagram, which holds all of my ideas for my
upcoming show. I will also comprise in a PowerPoint presentation which will have all of my findings
with the information that I have gathered online. I will also have a survey that I will ask people to
answer so that I will be able to present answers of questions asked onto my PowerPoint then finally
complete a production schedule. From this, it will narrow down in to the main idea. I intend to make
a main product over the period of December and January. This will be done using Audacity, sound
recordings, sound effects, and audio files. I will then begin to edit them on a computer to create the
best possible result. This will be achieved by adding music that should create the right atmosphere
for my show as this is typical for a radio magazine show. I intend to write my record of my planning
and progress on my Weebly blog. I hope to finish my product completely by January 2019 so my final
product will be of good broadcast quality.

Media convergence is the amalgamation of mass communication outlets – print, television, radio,
the Internet along with portable and interactive technologies through various digital media
platforms. It lets audiences use one platform to consume various types of media texts- on a
smartphone, tablet or laptop. Twitter and Facebook is a form of convergence in media as it allows an
audience to post links of a variety of media texts, such as radio. I will listen to BBC radio 1 as my
broadcast will be on BBC radio 1. Media convergence lets audiences access a certain platform to
consume various other media formats. Mobiles were used only for calling at one point and now are
updated with innovative features allowing Wi-Fi, the running of apps and even listening to the radio.
My radio magazine programme will have to therefore be accessible on any device inc. smart phones,
laptops tablets. Distributing my show through all of these forms of media allows the specific target
audience, being 16-25 to listen through a media format whereby they can access it via the internet
or apps.
