Utility  Programing  Instructions

Requirements:
Mac  OSX  10.6.8  or  higher
Mainstage  3  or  higher
Downloaded  all  additional  content  in  Mainstage.
Keyboard  Controller
USB  MIDI  Cable

Before  you  start:
Make  sure  that  you  have  downloaded  Mainstage  3  from  the  App  Store  on  each
computer  you  plan  to  use.    (Each  keyboard  will  need  its  own  computer  with
Mainstage  installed.)    When  prompted,  always  choose  to  download  all
additional  content,  otherwise  Mainstage  may  not  be  able  to  locate  all  of  the  sounds
which  we  have  provided.

In  the  file  you  received,  you  will  see  a  folder  for  each  keyboard  part  in  the  show.
Within  the  folders  are  two  files  (one  for  each  act.)    Copy/Paste  each  file  accordingly
to  the  computer  being  used  by  each  keyboardist.

Once  files  are  pasted,  open  desired  concert  files  Act  1  or  2.  All  files  should  be  loading
and  working  at  this  point.

Instructions:
The  samples  used  in  this  programing  are  all  royalty  free  and  standard
Mainstage/Logic  sounds.    Should  you  prefer  a  sample(s)  of  your  own  over  the  one
included,  Mainstage  is  fully  customizable  to  suit  your  needs.    Consult  your  Mainstage
user  manual  for  a  step-‐by-‐step  guide  on  how  to  replace  patches.

Also,  this  was  set  up  with  the  idea  that  a  mono  feed  would  be  taken  from  the
computer  to  the  sound  system.  If  a  stereo  feed  is  requested  by  your  productions
sound  team  feel  free  to  pan  certain  sounds  and  layers  for  a  cleaner  overall  mix.

We  recommend  if  not  familiar  with  Mainstage  or  if  this  is  your  first  time  using
Mainstage,  to  do  some  research  on  the  program  before  using  it  for  this  show.  There
are  many  custom  features  that  can  be  assigned  and  used  to  make  your  life  easier  in
performance  and  get  the  most  out  of  this  software.

A  screen  shot  is  also  included  to  show  you  how  the  show’s  layout  is  designed.

Pedal  Assignments:
The  3  pedals  need  to  be  assigned  in  layout  mode.  Here  is  a  brief  way  to  assign  a
pedal.  Please  look  up  further  or  more  detailed  instructions  if  needed

-‐Footswitch  (for  patch  changes)
This  can  be  a  foot  switch  pedal  or  assigned  to  any  key  on  the  keyboard  to
change  patches.

-‐Sustain  pedal  (should  already  be  assigned  but  on  some  systems  it  may  not  be)

-‐Volume  Pedal  (only  midi  volume  pedals  need  to  be  assigned)
You  can  also  use  a  standard  external  volume  pedal  in  which  case  nothing
needs  to  be  assigned  in  Mainstage.

How  to  assign  a  pedal:
1. Go  to  layout  mode  (top  left  corner)
2. On  the  center  of  the  screen  find  the  pedal  you  want  to  assign  and  click  it
3. Hit  the  assign  button  so  that  it  flashes  or  turns  a  color
4. Step  on  the  pedal,  or  hit  desired  key  on  the  keyboard  you  want  to  assign  to
that  function.
5. Click  ASSIGN  again  so  it  stops  flashing.
