Objectives:

· The student will be able to recall information learned in previous lessons.

· The student will be able to answer questions of various kinds about subject matter

they have previously learned in class in preparation for a summative assessment.

· The student will be able to work with their peers to answer questions asked verbally.

Ohio Learning Standard:

Based on the Ohio Learning Standard provided by my cooperating teacher, the main ideas I want

my students to remember are the effects that organisms have on their environment and the effects

the environment can have on populations of organisms.

Motivational Techniques:

This lesson is centered around a review game. The purpose of this review game is to prepare

them for a summative assessment, and the game involves the class working together in teams. I

plan to motivate the class by using the competitiveness of the game to get them excited about

reviewing for the test.

Materials Needed:

· A dry erase board/chalkboard

· Scotch tape
· A sheet of test questions

· Five sets of small paper cards, each card in a set labeled 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and x2

Procedure:

· When the students first walk into the classroom, I will tell them to take out their

notes and to study them while I get the paper cards taped on the board.

· Each group of students that are already sitting together will pick a team name, and I

will write them all on the board beside the cards with the different point values.

· I will explain the rules of the game.

· Then I will walk around the room asking each group individually one question of

each point value

· When all the point cards have been taken from the board and placed under a team,

the game is over. The team with the most points wins.

Academic Language:

· Emmigration

· Immigration

· Desertification

· Birth/Death rate

· Photic zone

· Aphotic zone
· Biotic

· Abiotic

Assessment Methods:

This entire lesson is a method of assessment that helps the students figure out what material they

still don’t understand or need to study more before they take the upcoming summative

assessment.

Evaluation of Field Experience Student’s Performance:

I feel like this lesson was fairly effective. While the first class I tried this lesson with wasn’t very

enthusiastic when playing this review game, the second class that I had later in the afternoon got

much more excited about it. Most of the questions I asked were answered correctly, which shows

that the students are already familiar with the material enough that they should be prepared for

the assessment. I hope that this review game showed them what material they still need to study.

Mrs. Fluharty gave me a few suggestions to help the review game go more smoothly next time.

One suggestion was to address the whole class when asking the questions, so that they will be

less likely to talk amongst each other when I’m not addressing them. Doing this will also help

them stay more involved in the game. Another suggestion that she gave me to improve the

review game was to adjust the rules of the game to make it more competitive. Mrs. fluharty

noticed that the students pay more attention when there’s an opportunity to steal points from

other teams, and she told me this is a good method to ensure they are paying attention.
