The Walthersonian May 2019
President’s Letter

Hello Waltherson,

We look forward to our next quarterly meeting on Tues, May 14th at Function Coworking Community at
4709 Harford Rd [maps.google.com] (near Zeke’s Coffee) from 7 to 9 pm. Come in the double doors &
directly to the right, go downstairs. See you there!

Thanks to all those that came out for the neighborhood clean up. Many areas around Waltherson have
been given a face lift.

We have a lot of things to share with you that affect our area & around us, for instance the results of the
Bill for second hand stores, new businesses coming in town & the results for the DOT Streetscape
Project, Block Captains & much more. As always, our local Police community liaisons will be present for
your concerns & ideas.

So, please come out & take part in your neighborhood. Bring a friend & help others get involved,
too. We will have time to chat with each other & meet new people.

Many thanks,

Helene Quinn
Waltherson President

NECOP – Northeast Citizens on Patrol

In Northeast Baltimore we have a district wide Citizens on Patrol program called NECOP. The
reasoning behind the COP program is that regular neighborhood patrols can make criminals feel
uncomfortable and drive them out of our neighborhood. Communities with regular NECOP
patrols, such as the North Harford neighborhood, also see significantly less crime than
communities with inactive patrols.

Participants meet at the Northeast Police station at 1900 Argonne Drive near Morgan State and
an officer will give you a direct number to keep them in contact with the Police. You would then
proceed to patrol the neighborhood in your car. Patrols normally go out each Thursday and
Friday from about 7:30 - 10:30. Anyone interested in the Citizens on Patrol program, please
contact us at mailbox@waltherson.org.

Mayor’s Spring Cleanup

For the mayor's clean up, WIA tidied the Unity Urban Garden, located at 4001 Southern Ave.
The plot has not been used as a garden for a few years, and is overgrown. Turn out for the
event was small, but very hardworking. The WIA board is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to
maintain the space. Please contact us!

Cemetery Cleanup Event

There will be a cleanup of the Biddison Cemetery at 3821 Forrester Ave on Saturday 5/4 at 9
AM. Stop by and join neighbors and a local Boy Scout troop to clean up the Biddison Cemetery!
This small family plot is taken care of by the Waltherson Improvement Association. Come out
and lend a hand. Bring gloves and gardening tools.
