2. Summarize activities you engaged in this placement.

a) Did your activities and/or responsibilities increase over the time? If so, how? If
not, why do you think this was the case?
Yes, the activities and responsibilities were increasing over the time. First, I started
my Internship going to meetings and later Ms. Shepard gave two projects in which I
worked during my las three weeks in combination with other activities. Later, I
went to RMS healthcare were once I knew all the departments and staff from the
company I started to work In the summarizing of the company's policy and In the
translations of the company's surveys. Finally, I started In HIM office where I started
working with one project In the first week but after the first week I got a different
project at the start of a new week.

b) Were you supervised during these activities? If yes, what level and type of
supervision did you receive? Was it helpful to learning? If no, why were you not
supervised and what effect did the lack of supervision have on you and your
experience?
The supervision was very professional, and, at the same time, I felt their
supervision was great since they always made me feel so welcome and willing to
hear all my questions. My reaction with all my supervisors were professional and
very friendly and always made sure I was understanding everything. Yes, it was
helpful to learning because all my supervisors were always willing to hear all my
questions.

3. What did you expect to learn from the placement?

Related to:
a) Your organization?
I expect to learn more in depth whether the organization’s Mission,
Vision, and Values are true according to the actions that the staff perform and
the services that they provide.

b) “professionals” within your organization with whom you had contact?

How they do their work in a professional and efficient way. I contacted
other staff in a few other departments such as in the Information Technology
Office, the Crouse Medical Practice Compliance Office, the Critical Event
Review, the HIPAA Offices, Trauma, and Obstetric office, HIM, Purchasing,
Patient Access, Security, Board. Basically, almost all the department that a
hospital needs in order to have a successful administration Furthermore, I met Ms.
Shepard's and Ms. Filipovich staff which constantly helped her with her role in
the hospital and my expectations, which were to learn more about other
professionals and see their everyday tasks, were met. Finally, I with RMS I got
some contact with other physicians and the employees who work for those
physicians via Skype video call and phone call.

c) Other “professionals” and other agencies with whom you had contact?
In Crouse Hospital I expected to learn from the outside medical translators which
other languages they can translate. Finally, In RMS I expected to learn how RMS help to their
clients to Improve their services.

d) Organization clients?
I did not have contact with Crouse's clients. In RMS I expected to learn how their
clients are feeling with RMS services.

4. What exactly did you learn through these activities?

a) Your organization?
I learned in a lot of depth the reason why this organization is a “non-for-
profit” one and how it really is engaged with employees, doctors, patients,
among others in all aspects. I also learned what “non-for-profit” really means
and how Crouse Hospital is so committed with the community’s needs and
resources and with the citizens that come to obtain healthcare services.
Finally, in RMS I learned that I learned that RMS works with Upstate Medical
University and they gave a testimonial that said "RMS was friendly, aimed to
please, helpful and professional. We will use the advertising campaign study
results to create consumer-preferred visuals and copy that will effectively
communicate product benefits. This is a new product launch." Therefore, the
clients have been very satisfied with the services that RMS has provided up
until now.

b) “Professionals” within your organization with whom you had contact?

I learned how they manage their life and carriers in order to be a successful
professional.

c) Other “professionals” and other agencies with whom you had contact?
I learned that Crouse Hospital had an outside medical translator company services
that can translate the majority of all the languages that exist. In addition, I learned the fact
that HIM use an outside storage for the maintaining of old documents from the hospital.
Finally, I learned that RMS use surveys In order to ask questions about the patients'
satisfactions with the services that they received from the physicians and hospitals.

d) Organization clients?
I did not have any contacts with Crouse's clients. Finally, I learned from RMS clients
that sometimes they were not giving good services because sometimes they did not asked to
their clients about their quality services.
5. What did you NOT learn through these activities, and why?
Related to:
a) Your specific organization?
NA
b) “Professionals” within your organization with whom you had contact?
NA
c) Other “professionals” and other agencies with whom you had contact
NA
d) Your clients?
NA

6. What were the two (2) BEST points of your placement, and why?
I did not have any preferences within the points of placements that I was during my internship
with Ms. Shepard, Ms. Maxween, and Ms. Filipovich.

7. What were the two (2) WORST points of your placement, and why?
NA

8. What lessons did you learn about leadership and management that you may choose to apply as
you’re further your career?
I learn about the different laws and regulations that the Federal and state government have in the
US hospital system.

9. What lessons have you learned about ethical dilemmas and how have they prepared you to deal
with similar situations if you encounter them again? I learned that not always people can follow
the job’s ethics. If a ethical dilemma is presented in the job field then the first step to deal with
these types of situations is to convoke a meeting where the administration can have a
conversation in order to find a solution to these situations.

10. In general, what have you learned about organizational life and how does it connect to the
theories that you have studied in class?
I learned about organizational life the fact that it is not always fair even if the system have
regulations and rules. This is a good example of ethical dilemmas that we discuss during the class
of “Legal and ethical issues for healthcare professionals”.

11. If you had to do this experience again, what would you change and why?
I will change the fact that it was an unpaid internship. This is because after my 8 hours shift ends
I had to go to my part time in order to get money to sustain myself. Finally, after the 8 hour shit
and a part time shift (4 or 6 hours) I had to go to my apartment or the library in order to work
with my school stuff.
