PURPOSE OF THE PORTFOLIO

This portfolio serves as the evidence of my 17-hour

observation in our cooperating school, San Isidro National High school. This is the
collection of works and knowledge I gained regarding Field Study 5, Learning
Assessment Strategies. In this portfolio, I broke down the totality of my classroom
observations into smaller parts of a more organized and detailed analysis of my
experiences for this subject. In addition, this serves as the reflection and
documentation of the activities and processes I engaged and went through
aligned to FS 5.
The portfolio is not merely only to comply to finish what was
expected on the subject. The greatest value of this portfolio,as for a future Values
Educator, is how it mirrors the reality of classroom situations when it comes to
implementing assessment activities

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I have given so much efforts on the kind of education I always wanted. Taking
Values Education was my first step. Oftentimes, people make false inferences
about us like “Values Educators are only affective people, they lacked in ways of
developing cognitive and psychomotor domains of students” when in fact, the crux
of all education is values education. This is not to brag or make some kind of
insult to other subjects, but to eliminate the stigma society painted on us. I believe
in the power of the mind that accepts learning, dictates how to behave and act,
and directs actions willfully. Given that human are intelligent, but today’s
generation is losing the trust in humanity. The big problem is that teachers are
able to produce students with big mind but small heart. I gave so much
importance to marks and scores, however, if I become a teacher I won’t look for
the most intelligent students. What the society needs are students of great minds
and good hearts, and this is what all teachers should build in themselves. We
cannot give what we do not have.
I am not spending years in schools only to see how unworthy my sacrifices
are. I have a vision that someday there would be the evident answer to the appeal
of a school principal who survived the Nazi Camp. He wrote in his letter “ I am a
survivor a a concentration camp. My eyes saw what no person should witness.
Gas chambers built by learned engineers . Children poisoned by educated
physicians. Infants killed by trained nurses. Women and babies shot and killed by
high school and college graduates. So, I’m suspicious of education. My request is,
help your students to be human.”
There is the need for all teachers to integrate values education in their
teaching. As an aspiring teacher, I am a firm believer that reading, writing, spelling,
history and everything we teach or may teach are only important if they serve to
make our students more human.
