Physical Fitness- the ability to perform daily tasks with vigor and without undue
fatigue, and with sufficient energy to engage in leisure pursuits to meet
unforeseen emergencies and vitality to perform one's fullest capacity.

Health Related- directed towards the prevention or rehabilitatoin from disease.

-The development of a high functional capacity.

1. Cardio-Vascular Endurance- ability of the heart and the vascular network to

deliver key nutrients such as oxygen and fuel while simultaneously moving waste
products.
ex. Running, Brisk Walking, Swimming.

2. Muscular Endurance- ability of our muscles to exert force or maintain a

continuous contraction over a period of time (repeated muscle contraction against a
resistance)

3. Muscular Strength- ability of a muscle to exert forcce for a brief period of

time
a.Isotonic Strength (Dynamic)
-weight training, gymnastics
-activities that include equipment
b. Isometric Strength (Static)
-a type of muscle contraction in which the muscles remain the same length
-push up

4. Flexibility- extent and range of motion around a joint without undue strain.
-ability of a joint to move freely in a range of motion

4 Range of Motion/ROM
a. Flexion- bending a body segment
b. Extension- straightening of a body segment
c. Abduction- moving a limb away from the midline of the body
d. Adduction- moving a limd toward the midline of the body

5. Body Composition- the relative balance of fat and body mass

-proportion of body fat to lean body tissue

Body Types
a. Asthenic/Ectomorph
-"without strength", slim, shallow chested, tall in proportion to other weight
b. Athletic/Mesomorph
c. Pynik/Endomorph

Skill Related- concerned with performing sport-related skills better and more
efficiently and thus directed towards optimizing athletic performance

1. Agility- ability to change directions rapidly and precisely with control

2. Balance- ability to maintain equilibrium while staionary or moving
3. Coordination- ability of an individual to integrate all types of movements into
specific patterns
