 Preparation of Proposed Welding Procedure Specification (PWPS)
 Review / Checking of Condition & Calibration Certificates of Welding Machine, Regulators,
Mother Oven, Portable Oven, Clamp Meter, Temperature Scanner, Stop Watch etc.
 Monitoring / Witness of Welding of test coupon for PQR Qualification.
 Monitoring / Witness of Destructive Test for PQR Qualification (Transverse Tensile Test, Root
Bend, Face Bend, Site Bend, Impact, Fillet Fracture, Macro).
 Preparation of Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).
 Preparation of Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).

►Welder Test (ASME SEC. IX)


 Toolbox / Welder Training for Welders & Helpers.
 Review of Previous Certificates of Welders.
 Monitoring / Witness of Welding of test coupon for Welders Performance Qualification test as per

root face, bevel angle, cleaning of weld zone, proper support & arrangement for distortion control
etc.
 Closely Monitor the Welding Process (SMAW / GTAW).
 Ensure correct use of weld consumables, preheating, interpass temperature maintenance, gas flow
rate (shielding), interpass cleaning etc.
 Inspection / Monitoring of visual inspection of weld joint (Surface cleaning, penetration, excess
weld metal, burn through, cavity, surface depression, valley depression, toe blending, undercut,
porosity, pinhole, slag inclusion, overlapping, under fill, weld profile, weld spatter, arc strike etc.)
and it’s surroundings (Weld spatter, arc strike, grinding marks, hammering marks, dent marks,
mechanical damage marks etc.) for or of all piping and welding works from piping pre-fabrication
to field installation.
 Verify / Routine Check of weld parameters of SMAW / GTAW process to be with in range as
specified in approved WPS during the shift on daily basis and maintain the records for
CS / MS material.
 Closely Monitor the performance of welders, repair of welds, analyses the causes and initiate
preventive and corrective actions.
 Responsible for preservation and contamination due to intermixing of carbon steel with stainless
steel, flanges raised protection and pipe ends for damage and valves preservation.
 Co-ordination of NDT activity.
 Witness Penetrant Test, Leak Test, visually accepted joints to cope up with the NDT percentage
requirements per line class & welders.
 Radiography marking for Random Radiography & Offering to NDT Agency.
 Co-ordination with NDT Agency.
 Interpretation of radiographs as per codes & standards.
 Checking for Mechanical Clearance of Piping Test Loop.
 Checking for provision of vents.
 Checking for correctness of gaskets & fasteners.
 Checking for correctness of valves, direction of flow.
 Ensuring NDT Clearance of Piping Test Loop before Proof Test.
 Checking of correctness of Test arrangements for Proof Test.
 Review of Calibration Certificates of Pressure Gauges.
 Witness of RF Pad Testing (If any).
 Witness of Water Flushing.
 Witness of Hydro Test.
 Witness of draining of water.
 Checking of removal of temporary blinds.
 Checking of trench level.
 Checking of surface preparation for Coating & Wrapping.

 Responsible for preservation and contamination due to intermixing of carbon steel with stainless
steel, flanges raised protection and pipe ends for damage and valves preservation.
 Monitoring of PWHT Cycle & Hardness Check.
 Co-ordination of NDT activity.
 Witness NDT Test - MT/PT, Leak Test, visually accepted joints to cope up with the NDT
percentage requirements per line class & welders.
