Selected Technology Tool: Powerpoint URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This powerpoint will be presented on a smart screen. Students will be able to come up to the board and touch which picture they think is the right answer. The pictures are really large so it helps those who have trouble seeing small pictures. All of the questions will also be spoken out loud and the so will the answers. When the students look up animals and flags for inspiration, there will be large keyboard and mouse available for those who need it.
Lesson idea implementation: The lesson will be introduced by asking students if there is a flag that they can see anywhere. Once the students point to the American Flag, a discussion of what flags are and what they represent will be launched. After that, the powerpoint will be presented. After the powerpoint is presented, students will draw a picture of the American Flag, a Bald Eagle, and themselves. This is the part where we see how well the students understood Flag/Animal.
When that is finished, as a bonus activity/closing activity students will create flags and animals for a new country. Students will be able to seek inspiration from pictures online. When the students start researching animals and flags, the teacher will walk around and help anyone who needs it.
Reflective Practice: This lesson is perfect for kindergarten because it incorporates things that they see daily IE the American Flag, and explains what these things actually mean. The implementation of the lesson is important as engagement needs to be high. Students will then be able to showcase their new knowledge by drawing pictures and implement their creativity when they come up with their own flags and animals.
