RESEARCH DESIGN

3.1 Title of the paper:

”The comparative study on growth, income and balanced fund


schemes of mutual fund at different companies at consortium
securities.”

3.2 Introduction: A mutual fund is a trust that pools the savings of a number
of investors who share ac common financial goal. The mutual fund is the most
suitable investment for the common man as it offers an opportunity to invest in a
diversified and professionally managed basket of securities at a relatively low
cost. Mutual funds generally offer number of schemes to suit the requirements of
the investors.

3.3 Statement of the problem: This study helps in knowing how the
schemes of the companies are performing and which schemes are preferred most
by the investors. These are the various schemes of mutual funds that are available
for investor to channelize funds. This leads investor to know information about
each and scheme and will unit their investment.

3.4 Review of Literature:

 Anand and Murugaiah evaluate the performance of mutual funds of 113


selected schemes and reveal the fact that the mutual funds were not able to
compensate the investors for the additional risk that they have taken by
investing in the mutual funds.
 Gupta in his study examined the performance of 73 mutual fund schemes
and shows that sample schemes performed poorer than the risk free assets
but better than market. Further, out of 73 schemes 54.8 percent
outperformed the relevant benchmark in Sharpe ratio but this ratio was
36.98 percent in case of Treynor.

3.5 Objectives:
 To study about the working of mutual fund.
 To give an idea about schemes available.
 To study about the selected mutual fund schemes.

3.6 Scope of the study: The scope of the study is mainly concentrated on the
different schemes of mutual fund such as growth, income and balanced fund of
different companies.

3.7 Limitations:

1. The study is limited to selected schemes of mutual funds


2. The time duration for the study was very short
3. Only three schemes have been taken for analysis
4. Period is of 3 years.

3.8 Research Methodology:

Secondary data is taken as a basis of analysis in this research.

3.9 Data Collection:

Secondary data is used for the study:

 Internet sources
 Newspapers
 Annual report of the company
