Pamela Becerra

EDU 201

02 / 03 / 2019

Good evening parents and students, my name is Pamela Becerra and I am going to be

your Kindergarten teacher this year. Thank you for coming into our classroom. I am very excited

to say that this is going to be my first year teaching. I have a passion for wanting to educate our

future and being a part of their growth. I hope that during our school’s open house event, all of

you feel welcomed and assured that your children are in a safe and caring environment.

I want to start off by giving an insight on what I believe in teaching and how I plan to

apply that to our classroom. As you can all see, I have decided to have the kid’s desks in groups.

I believe that it’s better to have them working together for most projects and assignments. That

way, the children are able to build social skills and are able to get along better with one another.

It’ll help the kids be able to communicate their ideas, learn how to share and listen to their

classmates as well. I will also be focusing on those group tables during the day, to ask the kids

questions and have them communicate with me, such as what they struggled with or what they

enjoyed doing. I believe this will help by really being able to guide and instruct the kids and

really focusing on the small table group I am with at the moment. For the most part, it’s their

very first year of coming to school and they are new to all these things. I want the kids to have

the classroom feel like their Home #2 and be able to feel comfortable being together with their
classmates and I. They will be spending a lot of their time of the day here, so it’s a great idea for

it to feel like we are family.

Next to my desk, I have our activity rug, which is where we will do assignments that

require the whole classroom to work together and participate. Such as reading, answering

questions on the board, singing/dancing, and where we have our huddles. Which is part of our

behaviour management in the classroom. It’s where we will huddle twice during the day, and

talk to each other on our behavior. It’s a good way of being able to fix any classroom problems

we are having, and having the kids being able to work that out together, rather than me having to

point that out. I think it’s a good idea to have the classroom be able to learn that communicating

is the best way to fix issues and let others know what we are feeling. My rules in the classroom

are not going to be a long list that my class will have to remember or read from the board. My

classroom will only consist of three rules, which are: 1.Respect everyone 2. Communicate, and

3. Don’t give up. A lot of the problems that can arise in classrooms, fall under these rules, which

is why I made them simple and sweet. Next to the student mailboxes, is our behaviour board.

Which is a board that consists of three plates: green, yellow and red. If after huddling and

communicating, there is still behaviour issues, the student(s) will move their pin to yellow,

which is a warning. If the pin is moved to red, they are not able to participate in our friday game

day and get a call home. Our friday game-day is where on the last 30 minutes of class, we play

games and sometimes get snacks depending on what the kids want and vote for.

The classroom mailbox which is next to the behaviour board, is where the kids will turn

in their homework every morning, and also pick up their folders to take home, to take to parents
and show them any announcements or graded work. In the corner, is our reading corner, which is

where groups will take turns to get comfy in the pillows and blankets, and get away from the rest

of the classroom, to be able to read and practice on words that we are working on that day. I will

also be assisting them during reading corner to make sure they are understanding everything.

Every group table has their own supply basket, that way during projects one of them goes to get

their group’s little basket to start working.

I hope that all of you were able to understand and get a visual of how our classroom will

be doing during the day. On the whiteboard, I did provide my school email and my personal

phone number just in case of any emergency. At the end of the open house, there is a table next

to the door. Which is where I added a copy of everything I just went through right now, my

personal contact information, and also a 2D visual of the classroom and where all of the kids will

be seated. Also, the kids folder is inside of their mailbox, make sure you also pick that up

because there are some papers that need to be signed and approved of for our future activities.

Thank you all so much for coming, It was a pleasure meeting you all and I hope to have left a

good impression and understanding of our classroom.
