Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Allow students to create a presentation or write down their food log.
This allows the students to have multiple options of creating their food log. I would also allow students to use
images to log their food intake. This would be a way to incorporate ELL’s as well.

Lesson idea implementation:

The students will be logging their daily intake of food for 5 days, a typical school week. As the standards
are being addressed the students they will be researching on their phones or computers how to count
calories. The project will be introduced to the students after a nutrition unit. I would use this project as an
assessment to see if they are able to apply what they have learned. The students will present their food log
using Nearpod.
To extend this project, I would challenge students to stick to a 2000 calorie diet instead of just logging what
they eat. This way they have to count every calorie they eat and be conscious of how much they’re allowed to
eat throughout the day. To conclude this lesson, I would allow the students to present their food logs to their
peers if they wanted to. To provide students with feedback, I would educate the students on food items they
could replace with better options.
Reflective Practice:
The lesson that I created allows students to apply what they’ve learned to their real lives. They will be
challenged to choose healthier food options. This activity would be at the end of a unit. To extend this lesson,
I could allow the students to cook an ideal meal with the correct portion and calories. This way they have to
choose the right foods and then prepare them. Computers and laptops would suffice for this unit.
