2. a) Calculate the natural angular frequency in side-sway for the frame shown in the Fig. (10)
below, also calculate natural period of vibration. If the initial displacement is 20mm and

the initial velocity is 20mm/sec what is amplitude and displacement after 1 second?

b) A four-storey reinforced concrete office building is located in Chandigarh .The soil (10)
conditions are medium stiff and the entire building is supported on a raft foundation.
The R. C. frames are in-filled with brick-masonry. The lumped weight due to dead
loads is 14kN/m2 on floors and 12 kN/ m2 the roof. The floors are to cater for a live load
of 3 kN/ m2 on floors and 1.5 kN/ m2 on the roof. Determine design seismic load on the
structure as per code.

3. a) Discuss briefly general principles of design of machine foundations. (04)

b) Determine the natural frequencies and mode shape for the framed structure with (16)
following mass and stiffness matrix.

4 a) Determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes for transverse vibration of a (14)
uniform beam clamped at one end and free at other. Sketch first four modes of vibration
of cantilever beam indicating circular frequency.

b) Explain briefly various steps for obtaining response for a continuous mass subjected to (06)
shear vibrations using numerical method

5 a) The stiffness matrix and mass matrix of a two degree freedom system are given by (14)
