Outline of Research Report

Thesis Outline

1. Abstract:
 Give a broad abstract of 300 words including objective, methodology, findings,
recommendations, and the value added of the work
2. Introduction:
 Background: Give very brief background about the topic
 Problem Statement: Motivation or reasons to conduct the research on this topic
and on the sample/ locality/ country
 Research Objectives: Objectives/aim of the study
 Research Question/ Hypothesis
 Significance of the study: Mention the significance or importance of this study and
give the importance of the study for the selected country/locality
3. Literature Review and Hypothesis development:
 Give an overview situation on the variables of the studying country
 Develop the hypothesis or relationship among the variables or present specific
debate based on the findings of literature
 Give the empirical findings or supports the debates from different countries and
then from the study country
 Find the concepts/ideas from literatures (journal/report/thesis/newspaper/book),
but develop your thesis literature by focusing on good journals (especially ISI
impact factor journals), high volume journals, journal published by good
publishers, and mostly from recent years (2016-2018) publications. For undergrad
thesis search more/less 50 articles, masters by coursework search more/less 100
articles, masters by thesis search more/less 200 articles, PhD thesis search
more/less 500 articles. Search articles by using different key words from these
sites:

 Show the data period, study are or country and findings of these articles and also
collect the literature used in these articles and keep all of the references properly
4. Research Methodology:
 Theory: Give all of the major theories related to the study with references
 Data: Give data source, data measurement/ description, data size, sampling method
and way of data collection, etc.
 Variables: Describe the variable if any measurement or calculation done
 Model: Develop the statistical/ econometric model based on literatures and show
the expected sign of variables
 Test the of Model: Describe the methods of statistical/ econometric test used for
data analysis
 Test the Efficiency of Model: Give the list of diagnostic test used to check the
robustness and efficiency of the model
5. Data analysis and Findings:
 Descriptive Analysis: Present an overall overview of the sample/country data in
table or graph and give descriptive analysis (mean, median, Standard Deviation,
etc.)
 Empirical Analysis: Give the econometric/ statistical output table and analyses the
findings
 Model Efficiency: Give the diagnostic test output and analyze the efficiency and
robustness of the model
6. Discussion:
 Analyze and/or compare the findings of each hypothesis based on theoretical and
literature supports
7. Conclusion:
 Give an overall summary of the study conclusion, and don’t bring any new issue.
8. Policy Recommendation:
 Mention the target group or who will be benefited from the study
 Based on the findings of the study, provide some policy recommendations to solve
the problem or to improve the situation or suggest how and where to use the
findings of the study

 Give the limitation based on sample size, data, locality, etc.
 Mention the way forward for future or further study
10. References:
 Give all of the references used in the study in the APA or Chicago style. UUM
students, follow OYA guidelines
