III. Procedure

Teacher’s Response Student’s Response

A. Preliminary
- Good day class. - Good day Ma’am.
1. Prayer - In the name of the Father……. (prayer)
- Okay, let’s pray…
(prayer)
2. Cleanliness
- Before you seat, please pick up the
pieces of paper under your chair and
arrange it properly.
3. Checking of Attendance
- Secretary, who are absents for today? - None, Ma’am.

B. Presentation of the lesson

1. Review
- Who can recall our topic last time? - Ma’am it is division of monomials
Anyone?
- Right, that was it, so how do we divide - We need to divide the numerical
monomials? coefficient to get the numerical coefficient
of the quotient. To get the literal coefficient,
we need to apply the laws of exponents.
- Very good. - Thank you Ma’am.

2. Motivation
- Moving on to our new topic for today, - Okay ma’am
we’ll be decoding some words by the
use of the clue pictures.
- For example, these pictures (the teacher - Ma’am it’s water and a melon.
will show two pictures) what do you
see in it?
- Good, now if we combine it, it - Watermelon.
becomes?
- How about this one? - A pole, lee, no, and mials.
- Combine it. - Ma’am its polynomials.
- Very good class.
3. Lesson Proper
- Let’s first define what a polynomial is.
- Okay Ma’am.

- A polynomial is an algebraic expression

consisting of a term or a sum of terms,
each of which is either a number or
product of a number, and a positive
integral power of an unknown quantity.
- Here are some examples. - Okay Ma’am.
1. 4
2. 3x
3. 8x2 + 3xy2 – z
- If the expressions had variables whose
exponent is not positive or some are
raised to non-integral exponents, these
are not polynomial.
- Like these examples.
1. 2x-2
2. 4x0.5 – 2x + 3
- Let’s classify polynomials according to - Okay Ma’am.
the number of terms.
- At your lecture, if it contains one term - Monomial Ma’am.
it is called?
- Right, mono means one.
- Two terms it is called binomials, bi
means two.
- If it contains three terms, then it is
called trinomials.
- More than three terms, then it is called - Okay Ma’am.
multinomials.
- Going back to our example, the first - A monomial Ma’am it contains only
one is? one term.
- Very good, the next one is? - Still a monomial Ma’am.
- That’s right, the last one? - A trinomial ma’am, consisting of three
terms.
- Good, next classification of - Okay Ma’am.
polynomials is according to degree.
- Degree of polynomial is determined by
the highest exponent its variable has.
- Example, 2x3 – 3x + 5, the degree is 3
since three is the highest exponent of
the variable x.
- What is the degree of the following - Two Ma’am
polynomial? - Three Ma’am
1. 5x2 + 4
2. 45x2 – 5x3 + 4x
- Very good class. - Thank you Ma’am.
- There are some polynomials with
different variables, we just need to add
the exponents of the variables in each
term.
- For example, 4x2y3z - 7xyz2 + 9xyz
- The sum of the exponent of the first - Six Ma’am.
term is 6, the second is 4 and the last
term is 3, again we need to add the
exponents of the variables of each term.
The degree of this polynomial is?
- Very good! Because 6 is the highest - Thank you Ma’am.
sum of the exponent of each term.
- We can classify polynomial according - Okay Ma’am.
to degree. First-degree polynomials are
called linear polynomials,
second-degree polynomials are called
quadratic polynomials, cubic
polynomials for third-degree
polynomials, fourth-degree
polynomials are called quartic
polynomials, and lastly the quintic
polynomials for fifth-degree
polynomials.
4.Application
- Class, is this a polynomial? - Yes, Ma’am.
10x4 + 5x2 -3x + 6
- Very good! What do we call this - Ma’am it’s a mutinomial, because it
polynomial according to its term? contains more than three terms.
Why?
- Very good. How about according to - Ma’am it is quartic polynomial,
degree? Why? because it has a degree of 4.
5.Generalization
- Class, can anyone summarize our
lesson? - Ma’am we discuss about polynomials,
classifying it by the number of terms
- Very good! and according to degree.
- We can integrate classifying of - Thank you Ma’am.
polynomials in real life, there were - Yes Ma’am.
different kinds of polynomials right?
Just like us human, we are different
from each other, but let’s still respect
one another, okay?
- Any questions? - None, Ma’am.
- Let’s have a quiz. - Okay Ma’am

IV. Evaluation
Identify if the following are polynomials, if yes, classify it according to the numer of terms
and degree.
Example: 12x + 5 polynomial, binomial, quadratic polynomial
1. 8 + 3x2 -12x
2. 4x4y2z + 12x2yz2
3. 9x0.3 + 2x
4. 980x5
5. 12x4y2 + 9x-3 + 4x2

- Are you done class? - Yes Ma’am.

- Please pass your paper forward.
- Copy your assignment. - Okay Ma’am.

V. Assignment
Give 2 examples for the following.
1. Trinomial
2. Binomial
3. Cubic Polynomials
4. Quintic Polynomials
5. Linear Polynomials

- Yes Ma’am. - Are you done class?

- Goodbye Ma’am. - Goodbye class.
