Suscripción del Memorándum de Entendimiento
entre el Perú y Sudáfrica sobre el Establecimiento
de Consultas Políticas
El Canciller del Perú, Emb. Néstor Popolizio, y el Vice Ministro de la cancillería sudafricana, Luwellyn Landers,
firmaron el 20 de marzo último, en Buenos Aires, el Memorándum de Entendimiento (MOU) entre el Perú y Sudáfrica
sobre el Establecimiento de Consultas Políticas, que dispone reuniones periódicas entre funcionarios de alto nivel de
los dos países, para revisar las relaciones bilaterales, promover acciones para incrementarlas e intercambiar puntos
de vista sobre aspectos regionales e internacionales.
La firma del MOU sobre consultas políticas, que estuvo paralizada cerca de tres años, es un paso muy importante en
el desarrollo de las relaciones entre los dos países, ya que permitirá culminar negociaciones muy avanzadas y firmar
nuevos acuerdos en diversos sectores de interés bilateral, como la cooperación antártica, judicial, cultural, medio
ambiente, educación, entre otros.
Signing of The Memorandum of Understanding
between Peru and South Africa on the
Establishment of Political Consultations
The Foreign Affairs Minister of Peru, Amb. Néstor Popolizio, and the Deputy Minister of the Department of
International Relations and Cooperation of South African Foreign, Luwellyn Landers, signed on March 20th, in
Buenos Aires, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Peru and South Africa on the Establishment
of Political Consultations, which arranges periodic meetings between senior officials of the two countries to
review bilateral relations, promote actions to increase them and exchange views on regional and international
aspects.
The signing of the MOU on political consultations was on hold for nearly three years which is a very important
step in the development of relations between the two countries. The MOU will allow to conclude very
advanced negotiations and sign new agreements in various sectors of bilateral interest, such as Antarctic,
judicial, cultural cooperation, environment, education, among others.

viene realizando con los diversos partidos políticos que
se presentan a las próximas elecciones, en el mes de
abril nos reunimos con el parlamentario Darren Bergman,
de Alianza Democrática, miembro del Comité de
Relaciones Internacionales del Parlamento de la
República.

Democratic Alliance, member of the International Relations
Committee of the Parliament of the Republic. In the

El Consejero Oscar Roca Ferrand, Jefe de Cancillería de esta Embajada,
participó en Abiyán, Costa de Marfil en el Grupo de Trabajo sobre la revisión y
actualización del Convenio Internacional del Cacao de 2010 y en el Panel ad
hoc sobre Cacao Fino o de Aroma en representación del Perú. El objetivo de la
presencia peruana en la reunión de Abiyán fue alcanzado, ya que el Panel ad
hoc recomendó que el Perú mantenga el reconocimiento del 75% de porcentaje
exportado como cacao fino y de aroma.
Councillor Oscar Roca Ferrand, Chief of Chancellery of this Embassy,
participated in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire in the Working Group on the revision and
updating of the International Cocoa Agreement of 2010 and in the Ad Hoc Panel
on Fine Cocoa or Aroma in representation of Peru. The objective of the Peruvian
presence at the meeting in Abidjan was reached, as the ad hoc Panel
recommended that Peru maintain the recognition of 75% of the percentage
exported as fine cocoa and aroma.

Nos reunimos con el señor Philani Mthembu, Director del IGD
y le manifestamos el interés de esta Embajada en trabajar más
estrechamente con sectores de la sociedad civil sudafricana,
colaborar a nivel académico y en investigaciones de mutuo
interés para ayudar a difundir un mayor conocimiento entre
ambos países.
We met with Mr. Philani Mthembu, Director of the IGD
and we expressed the interest of this Embassy in
working more closely with sectors of South African civil
society, collaborating academically and in research of
mutual interest to help spread a greater knowledge
between both countries

El señor Mthembu se mostró muy receptivo en la propuesta y
se acordó explorar posibles medios de colaboración. Existen
diferentes áreas bilaterales y multilaterales en las que se
puede ampliar la colaboración entre ambos países como el
medio ambiente, defensa, colaboración sur-sur, entre otros.
Mr. Mthembu was very receptive in the proposal and it
was agreed to explore possible means of collaboration.
There are different bilateral and multilateral areas in
which the collaboration between both countries can be
expanded, such as the environment, defense, south-
south collaboration, among others.

La Embajada visitó al Profesor MS Makhanya, Rector y Vice-Canciller de UNISA, la más
grande del país, quien estuvo acompañado por el Profesor Stephen Khelha Ndlovu y
otros cinco Directores de la referida universidad. El Rector Makhanya mostró mucho
interés en iniciar colaboración académica con nuestra Embajada y en nuestro
ofrecimiento de otorgar dos pasantías a estudiantes de UNISA para que realicen
prácticas pre profesionales. Asimismo, se trató sobre la posible cooperación entre
universidades peruanas y UNISA, tanto en el intercambio de estudiantes como la
cooperación formal en investigación sobre temas de mutuo interés.
The Embassy visited Professor MS Makhanya, Dean and Vice-Chancellor of
UNISA, the largest university in the country, accompanied by Professor Stephen
Khelha Ndlovu and five other Directors of the aforementioned university. Dean
Makhanya showed great interest in initiating academic collaboration with our
Embassy and in our offer of granting two internships to UNISA students to carry
out pre-professional practices. Likewise, the possible cooperation between
Peruvian universities and UNISA was discussed, both in the exchange of
students and formal cooperation in research on topics of mutual interest.

Cámara de Comercio Peruano-
Sudafricana (SAPCHAM) Promueve

Con más de 20 años de relaciones diplomáticas, en agosto de 2015 se creó la
Cámara de Comercio Peruano-Sudafricana – SAPCHAM, con el apoyo de la
Embajada de la República de Sudáfrica en el Perú.
SAPCHAM es una organización independiente sin fines de lucro, que agrupa a
empresas, instituciones y empresarios peruanos interesados en desarrollar
actividades técnicas y comerciales con sus similares en Sudáfrica, a través de
misiones comerciales, ruedas de negocios y ferias especializadas en ambas
naciones.

Commerce (SAPCHAM) Promotes
business between Peru and South
Africa
With more than 20 years of diplomatic relations, in August 2015 the Peruvian-
South African Chamber of Commerce - SAPCHAM was created, with the support of
the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Peru.
SAPCHAM is an independent non-profit organization, which brings together
Peruvian companies, institutions and entrepreneurs interested in developing
technical and commercial activities with their peers in South Africa, through trade
missions, business conferences and specialized fairs in both nations.

South African investments in Peru have been characterized by being sustainable
and generating value. For example, in the case of the mining sector, Gold Fields
completed a decade of operations and announced that it plans to invest US $ 240

Testimonios de vida:
Norma Saer de Antonie
Soy Norma Saer Becerra, de madre peruana y padre libanés. Seguí
la carrera de comercio y trabajé en Trujillo, al norte del Perú, para
diferentes empresas peruanas. En 1970, viajé a Sudáfrica para
visitar a unos familiares. Poco después de llegar, encontré un
trabajo en una aerolínea española y conocí a Melvyn Antonie, un
estudiante de último año de derecho en ese momento. Decidí
quedarme y poco después me casé con él y tuve cuatro hijas:
Nicole, Carla, Genevieve y Dominique.
Durante 19 años no tuve otras conexiones familiares en este país,
aparte de mis suegros, por lo que dediqué todo ese tiempo a mi
familia y a administrar mi hogar.
En 1989, mi hermana Vilma y su familia vinieron a Johannesburgo y
nuestra pasión por la gastronomía nos llevó a iniciar un pequeño
servicio de catering. Ese año, el cónsul peruano, Sr. Uno Nielsen,
nos pidió realizar el servicio de catering para la recepción del 28
de Julio, día de la Independencia del Perú. Aceptamos la oferta y
atendimos a 50 personas y así fue como nació Norma & Vilma
Caterers. En 1991, mi hermana Jannet se unió al negocio.
Desde entonces, hemos tenido el privilegio de realizar servicios de
catering para muchos jefes de estado, miembros de la realeza,
celebridades, pero nuestro recuerdo más preciado es el encuentro
y la bendición del Papa Juan Pablo II durante su visita a Sudáfrica
en 1995.
Aunque nosotras siempre hemos hecho todo lo posible en
promover nuestra cocina, también hemos aprendido a través de
otras embajadas en Sudáfrica, sus diferentes cocinas y hemos
tenido el privilegio de trabajar con muchos chefs internacionales
(México, Perú, Ecuador y Jamaica).
Durante los últimos 12 años, Norma & Vilma Catering ha venido
operando desde sus instalaciones industriales ubicadas en
Fontainebleau Randburg.
¡Estoy orgullosa de mis raíces! Y agradecida por las oportunidades
que Sudáfrica me ha brindado a mí y a mi familia.

Life testimonies:
Norma Saer de Antonie
I was born as Norma Saer Becerra from a Peruvian mother and
Lebanese father, followed a commercial education and worked in
Trujillo for different Peruvian companies. I travelled to South
Africa in 1970 to visit some relatives. Shortly after arriving, a
found a job with the Spanish Airlines and met Melvyn Antonie a
final year law student at the time. I decided to stay for good and
was married shortly after that and had four daughters: Nicole,
Carla, Genevieve and Dominique.
For a period of 19 years, I had no other family connections in this
country besides my in-laws, so I dedicated all this time to
managing my family and household.
In 1989 my sister Vilma and family arrived in Johannesburg. The
same year Vilma and I decided to fulfill our cooking passion and
starting catering on small scale - our children were attending
school so we had extra time during the day. That year, we were
asked by the Peruvian Consul to South Africa at the time, Mr. Uno
Nielsen, to cater for the Peruvian National Day. We accepted and
catered for 50 people and that is how Norma & Vilma Caterers
was born.
In 1991 my sister Jannet joined the business
Since then we have had the privilege of catering and, meeting
many head of states, royalty, celebrities but our most precious
memory is meeting and being blessed by Pope John Paul II while
visiting South Africa in 1995.
Although we promote our cuisine as much as possible, we have
learnt over the years through other foreign Embassies in South
Africa, their different cuisines and have had the privilege of
working with many international visiting chefs (Mexico, Peru,
Ecuador, and Jamaica).
We have been operating from our industrial premises situated in
Fontainebleau Randburg for the past 12 years.
I am proud of my roots! And thankful for the opportunities that is
country has offered me and my family.
