Fundraising Objectives
The objective of this fundraiser to raise $10,000 in order to sponsor two families for non-
medical needs and expenses over the upcoming 2018-19 school year.
Our objective is to gain 60% of our funds from businesses and 40% from event participants and
individual donors an $6,000 and $4,000 respectively. Each board member will be soliciting
funds from local businesses and their contacts and volunteers will be taking literature to sell
sponsorships. Due to generous in-kind donations the fundraiser has minimal, if any, cost to run
so almost all proceeds are able to go straight to Heroes and Angels Comic Con.
Businesses will be able to purchase the previously mentioned sponsorship tiers before
the event or make smaller donations during the event. The donation table will be there the

Needs Statement
In 2017 the National Cancer Institute estimated that, in the US, over 15,000 children
from ages 0 – 19 would be diagnosed with cancer. As of January 1, 2014, there were over
419,000 survivors of childhood cancer in the United States. Many of these families have parents
that must quit their jobs to get their children to and from the hospital, they rely on nonprofits and
government assistance for their family’s basic needs and medical expenses for their sick
children. Often times non-medical needs and expenses are overlooked when organizations look
In 2009 the average cost for childhood cancer treatment was $40,400. One study
showed that out of pocket medical costs for a sick child cost a parent up to 26% of their weekly
budget. Many of these families require childcare for other children when taking their sibling to
appointments. These costs can add up with the average monthly cost of childcare coming in at
$972. With parents’ time and resources divided many children are missing out on the fun of
childhood because all resources are used for necessities such as food, rent, utilities and
medical expenses. There is little residual income for fun, entertainment, or hobbies for the
affected family. In Arkansas we are served by Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) with its main
campus located in Little Rock. It is one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country and
Heroes and Angels is a large advocate of ACH and donates much of its excess profits to the
hospital. Heroes and Angels helps with many of the formerly mentioned issues that ACH
cannot. They provide non-medical expenses and help for families coping with childhood cancer.
Not only do they provide financial assistance, they ensure that all of their events are free for
their sponsored families and are fun and interactive for the children. Heroes and Angels

believes that family comes first and that all children should get a shot at a childhood. As such
they help parents and families provide fun vacations and events as well as helping with
Christmas gifts, housing expenses or other needs. They understand that medical expenses can
take up a large sum of a family’s budget and have committed themselves to helping ease other

The help that Heroes and Angels provides takes many different forms. They host an
annual stocking drive that provides stockings for over 50 children in need. They also provide
financial assistance for housing, utilities, birthday and Christmas gifts, and childcare. Non-
medical needs often fall by the wayside for families affected by childhood cancer. The parents of
these children need to focus all of their time and energy on helping their little one get well. That
is where Heroes and Angels comes in to help. They have assisted dozens of families get
through these difficult times and hope to continue to do so until cancer is cured for good.
Heroes and Angels has two major fundraisers. The first is Heroes and Angels Comic
Con which is in its third year and the second is Heroes and Angels Gaming Experience which is
in its inaugural year. They are currently sponsoring 5 families and would like the funds to double
this amount by 2019. Each family is currently allotted approximately $5,000 or less per year.
Heroes and Angels would like to not have to assign limits so they can help their sponsored
