LESSON PLAN

Date: 6th May, 2019 Subject: Mathematics

Class: 4RC Period: 1st

Topic: Trigonometry: Angles of Elevation and Depression

Textbook/Resources needed: A Complete Course Vol.1, Worksheets, Internet, and Multimedia

projector, teacher compass

No. in Class: 19 No. Absent: ___________ No. Present: _____________

Lesson Duration: 40 minutes Teacher: Ms. C. Goolcharan

Previous knowledge:
Basic Operations, solving questions involving
trigonometric ratios, Pythagoras’ theorem.
Set Induction: Activity: teacher will use a Intelligences Addressed:
teacher’s compass to demonstrate: when the Visual/Spatial, Mathematical logical,
compass is closed and horizontal in front her Interpersonal
eyes, she will explain that it is a horizontal line
of sight keeping in mind your head must be
straight. If she looks down at a student sitting,
the table or the floor she will move 1 arm
following that line of sight. If she looks up at
the ceiling, or a point on the wall she moves an
arm following that line of sight. Students will
observe for each case and angle is formed.
Outcome(s) addressed/Specific objectives: Assessment:
Students will be able to: Question: to be done individually, students
1. Identify angles of elevation and will switch books and teacher will correct on
depression. white board.
2. Realize that angle of elevation is equal
to angle of depression.
3. Solve problems involving angle of
elevation and depression.

Methodology/Instructional Activities Closure:

 Show a video using the following link. An angle of elevation and depression is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqgmkxcLcM formed ……
4
Are angles of elevation and depression
equal?
 Stop the video at intervals to ensure
students are following and ask relevant
questions.
 At the end of the video allow students
time to write down definitions.
 A teacher designed worksheet will be
given to identify angle of elevation and
depression.
 Students will give answers with an
explanation for their choice.
 Questions with diagrams will be given
and teacher will work with students to
solve problems involving this topic
using trigonometric ratios and
Pythagoras’ theorem.
