medicine. In order to enter into the profession, it is necessary to have a strong background of
STEM courses in high school, such as physics and chemistry. These subjects apply to a trauma
doctor, because it is necessary to understand how the human body works and analyze the chain
reactions that happen in the body. As you approach college, it is recommended to receive a
bachelor’s degree in courses that are specialized in biology, chemistry, physics, and anatomy.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in science, prospective students who are seeking to become a
trauma doctor must take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) in order to be accepted
into a medical school. After medical school admissions, students interested in becoming a trauma
doctor must complete 4 years in medical school and receive a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree.
The first two years are mainly classroom work, while the last two years of medical school the
beginnings of medical residency, where students are exposed to real-world application by
working in hospitals in different departments, specifically trauma. Eventually, prospective
students would have to take a licensing exam, in order for them to legally practice in the United
States.
While becoming a trauma doctor, Spanish skills are a prominent necessity to possess,
especially working in a hospital. Every day, it is a routine for trauma doctors to interact with
patients and their families about their diagnosis and any performed tests needed. If the only
language that the patient or his/her families is Spanish, the usage of Spanish skills will help
immensely and there will not be a presence of a language barrier. In addition, if there are other
doctors or surgeons on the team of healthcare professionals that can only speak Spanish, there
will not be a language barrier between doctors. As a trauma doctor, it is important that
Spanish-speaking employees are able to speak Spanish, because trauma doctors will most likely
be working with other specialties of the hospital and if the only language able to be spoken is
Spanish, then the usage of Spanish has to be used.
