Domain D Artifact Rational

Domain D; Planning Instruction and designing learning experiences for students incorporates

TPE 8 and TPE 9. TPE 8 is getting to know your students. Getting to know your students academically and

personally is valuable to successful teaching and learning. In artifact 1 the article provides further

evidence of the importance personal connections are in the classroom. The article states that creating

personal connections with students allows the teacher to better design lessons and learning activities

that cater to the specific needs of the students. Teachers that have strong positive relationships with

their students earn the trust of the class. The trust that is developed between teachers and students

provides the psychologically safe environment necessary to get students to step out of their

intellectual comfort zone to learn new concepts and ideas

Artifact 2 is a teaching and learning plan that displays understanding of TPE 9. TPE 9 is

Instructional Planning, therefore I chose a week long lesson plan that is aligned with California

state content standards and uses pre-assessments, learning activities, on-going assessments,

and post assessments, which are all components of TPE 9 Instructional planning. Instructional

planning is vital to effective teaching. It is the preparation and plan that will guide teachers and

students to achieving their academic goals. The lesson also includes clear learning goals and

outcomes. The learning activities incorporated with in the lesson plan are designed to benefit

multiple levels of intelligence and learning styles.

Artifact 3 is an essay about the benefits of grouping patterns for differentiated

instruction. Effective grouping patterns help teachers teach content material. Whole group

pattern is the traditional method which incorporates the entire class and is mostly used for

lecture, instruction, discussion, and directions. Next is small grouping patterns, which consist of
groups of four to six. Small groups are commonly used for group discussion, collaboration,

group learning activities and projects. The final grouping pattern is peer panel, which is good for

interviews, panel discussion, role play situations, and project presentations. Each pattern is also

a tool for differentiating instruction especially when the groups are thoughtfully and

purposefully arranged for the benefit of each students.
