Introduction

The ferrofluids are composed of microscopic

ferromagnetic particles, usually blood magnetic or some
other compound with Fe2 + or Fe3 + content. The
nanoparticles are typically of the order of 10nm. This is
small enough so that the thermal agitation distributes
them evenly within the carrier fluid, as well as to
contribute to the overall magnetic response of the fluid.

This is analogous to the way in which the ions of a

general aqueous paramagnetism saline solution of the
fluid contain said paramagnetic properties.

A true ferrofluid is established; this means that the exiting

particles do not agglomerate or separate this phase even
under the influence of very strong magnetic fields.

However, the surfactant tends to decompose over time

(some years) and eventually the nano particles
agglomerate and separate, ceasing to contribute to the
magnetic response of the
fluid.
Hypothesis
It reacts equally using water as solvent. The same effect
can be achieved with another type of magnet. There are
other types of substances that have the same effect.

Objectives
General-Recognize what the level of magnetization of the
ink is and show the impressive figures by applying a
magnetic field to the fluid.

-Know the magnetic fields of neodymium magnets.

Specific

-Show the reaction of the ink when a magnetic field is

applied.

-Define the concepts of ferrofluids.

-Determine that oil, ink or printer toner and imarets have

different uses.
Materials:
*Black toner ink
*Vegetable oil
*Magnet
*Glass container

Process
Ferrous chloride is dissolved in water in a container and
in another ferric chloride, then mixed in a single one and
put to heat over medium heat, then in the heated mixture
is added sodium hydroxide and the mixture starts to turn
dark , this tells us that magnetite is being formed.

Conclusion
A ferrofluid is a liquid which is magnetized by the
presence of a nearby magnet. The ferrofluid contains nano
ferromagnetic particles which respond to a magnetic field,
in this case the toner has these particles.
Toner for printers is made up of really very small particles
of different materials. Among them, some that responds to
the action of a magnetic field. When we approach the
magnet, these particles are oriented according to the
direction of the magnetic field lines.

The ferrofluid has three important elements which are the

conveyor (liquid in which the ferromagnetic particles are
contained), a sufractant, liquid in charge of covering the
particles to prevent them from agglomerating when in
contact with a magnet (without the sufractant the particles
they would only approach the magnet without altering the
ferrofluid) and finally the ferromagnetic nanoparticles.
