Unit 3: L04 D1: ANALYSE HOW POST- PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES AND PROCESSES CREATE

MEANING IN THE MEDIA PRODUCT TO MEET THE CLIENT BRIEF

Throughout my Promotional video, I used many different post-production techniques to help

enhance my promotional video. I used these techniques (below) to enhance my video because my
client (Cambridge City Council) wants to win the culture competition and promote Cambridge.

One post-production technique I used was adding text and an image of the client's logo to the
beginning of the production to advertise the client and give the title of the video to the viewers. I
also added a fade onto the image to add effect this is because transitions such as a fade enhance a
formal video such a promotional video and keeps people interested in the video. I also added the
logo at the end to further promote the client in my video. The text at the beginning of the video is
purple and the font is source sans pro, I think this adds a good effect to my video because it
highlights the title of the video.

Another post-production technique I used was a lot of text on screen for extra information. I used
this a lot throughout my video to mainly give the name of each building and place in my production.
The font I used was castellar, I used this font because it seemed to stand out more and suit
the video more. I used a white font colour and added a thin, grey, rectangular box around the text to
make sure the text was readable and look like professional subtitles. I also added speech boxes with
text explaining a point about the mathematical bridge in more detail and explaining how it links to
culture.

I added animated arrows as a visual effect to the video. I used them to show how the Mathematical
bridge joins together in a more enhancing way, showing rather than telling. I did each arrow a
different colour so it is easy to differentiate between tangents. This enhances my video because it
looks better than just an image on a screen with a narrator talking about it, it gives the video more
detail. I think this scene will really help the client in the competition as they want a well edited
video. The client's use for the video after the competition may be to advertise and promote
Cambridge to tourists, and this scene would help with that too.

Throughout the video (between each subtitle change and one or twice on the video footage) I added
a transition called radial blur. This transition is like a fade but looks better to use than a simple fade.
This enhances my video because it makes it look more visually pleasing as it makes the subtitles look
better when they are changing. Each transition last about half a second which matches both my
proposal and my storyboard.

When I compare this to similar media texts, the post production techniques are similar as well.
however, one seemed to use text only to describe the city and did it in a more boring font that
appeared to be similar to Cambria (headings), however they put each bit of text in a kind of water
droplet shape, to go with the theme of the city on the lake. And the other promotional video used
speech to narrate the promotional content, only using text at the very name to give the name of the
city and the reference to the council in which it was made by. No extra images was used in these
videos, but also used more equipment such as drones to get some of the shots in the video. It
seemed that the music was also royalty free or specifically made for the video. The transition of shot
to shot was a simple but effective and well timed and edited sharp cut, only using a fade at the end
to transition out of the video.

Unit 3: L04 D1: ANALYSE HOW POST- PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES AND PROCESSES CREATE
MEANING IN THE MEDIA PRODUCT TO MEET THE CLIENT BRIEF

The brief asked me keep the video copyright free, it must be my own footage and in terms of music
it must be non-copyright. I made sure I stuck to this throughout the video. And all my footage and
content, combined with the post production techniques help to make the video stand out,
promoting it to more people and catching the judges eyes.

The Aspects of my video such as all of the shots edited together with precision, the text naming the
locations, the narration in the background as well as the music, really help give the viewers and
audience a sense of satisfaction while watching the film. It allowed them to get a taste of
understanding in terms of what Cambridge culture means and what the city itself is like based on
these factors, while the voiceover advertises culture and location, the shots give the audience an
example of some fantastic areas of Cambridge which would make them like the idea of visiting
Cambridge even more, which is after all, the intention of this video (apart from winning that
competition of course!!)
