C. LEARNING MATERIALS
1. Social Function

Personal Letter is a type of letter (or informal composition) that usually concerns

personal matters (rather than professional concerns) and is sent from one individual to

another.

2. Text Structure

a. Date: Date when the letter is written

b. Address: place where you are writing from

c. Salutation & name: greeting and the name of receiver "Dear...", "Dearest...",

"Sweetheart", "My lovely ..."

c. Introduction: the opening of the letter usually starts with “how are you?”

d. Body: the main part of letter.

e. Closure: the part indicates the letter is going to end. Sorry, I have to finish my

homework now. I would wait for your reply dan I have to go now. See you soon and

good luck!

f. Complimentary close: Short expression like "with love", "sincerely yours”.

B. TEACHING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES

1. Pre activities:

 The teacher greets the students.

2. Whilst Activities:

 The teacher distributes students' worksheets.

 The teacher explains the social function, text structure, and language features of

personal letter.

 After giving explanation, the teacher shows an example of personal letter .

 Students work on the first task in their worksheets individually.

 The teacher asks students to work in group consists of four students to fill in the blank

and answer some questions about the personal letter.

 The teacher points some groups randomly to mention the information contained in the

personal letter.

 Students are asked to make their own personal letter by choosing one of five topics

that have been determined.

alone, huhuhu so sad. My family and I are missing you a lot.
How is Paris? I guess it's very beautiful. Winter is coming soon right? Ah, I really
want to know how the winter is. But, most Importantly, please wear warm outfits and don't
get sick.
And how about your college life? Is it run smoothly as you expected. I guess you
will be the best in the class because you are the smartest one haha. Do you know? I will be
starting my study in January. I'm very excited about it, because it is the first college class. I
take English Education as my majority.
