NAMI North Texas with Lisa & Marsha: Action Plan

Intervention summary statement

For our project at NAMI North Texas we will be making an electronic resource guide to help
categorize all of our resources we have into specific counties, services, and by cost (insurance
vs. self pay/no insurance). We are going to be doing this by using an excel spreadsheet so that
we can easily access all resources for our clients so that we can easily find them. This will be split
up between the 2 other interns and I. and we will have this compiled and updated by the end of
our internship in May.

Community analysis

This is to help better serve our community of those who have been affected by mental illness,
whether they are the individual with the mental illness or the family/friends of an individual with
mental illness. The needs of these clients are that most people who interact with NAMI are
looking for their first stop for mental health needs. Many of our clients don’t know where to
start and are asking for guidance, as they have never even admitted their need for mental
health services.

Problem analysis

The main problem among our community is the stigma that prevents us from seeking
the mental health treatment that we need so that we may refer them with the services
they need. This is why we need to optimize our resource guide so that we can best organize
all of our resources so we can get the most information out and make this step easier
for our clients.

Goal & Objectives

 One goal of NAMI North Texas is to lower the stigma surrounding mental illness
 To make access to resources easier and faster with our new resource guide
 To help clients find resources near their home and for their income

Intervention research

NAMI has had resource guides in the past but everything was on paper or pamphlets and very
minimally organized making it very hard to find the information we needed. We were only able
to refer people to the same 3 or 4 clinics but now that we have been able to create our resource
guide we can finally make a more personal selection when referring people to resources.

Evaluation Plan

We are planning to add our resource guide to the NAMI website because we kn0w many people
go to our website looking for information because we get calls from people saying they have
been to the website. We will evaluate its effectiveness by looking at the # of visitors to the site
and # of people who use the online version of the resource guide.
