MANUAL INVERTER OPERATION TEST

IN EnPower33 Silver MODEL UPS

WARNING: TEST, SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE
Since only the professional, qualified and authorized technical personnel are allowed to
deal this UPS system and as the user has agreed to ensure this condition, the UPS
manufacturer will not take the responsibility in case any fatality occured due to wrong
handling of the device by the user. In order to avoid any fatality, only the qualified and
professional persons are allowed to deal with any tasks related to the dangerous parts of the
device.
Only those who are expert and knowledgeable about the system and all the parts inside
it, are authorized to deal with it.
Only experienced and specialist persons in this field are supposed to be involved in fault
detection and trouble-shooting. All these warnings, rules and regulations are only to protect
the user against any sort of fatalities.
This system is designed under the supervision of experienced and professional
personnel ensuring the laws regarding safety, management and service to yield a safe,
reliable and well running device.
When the case of the device is kept open, there remains a probability to touch the high
voltage carrying points accidentally. Consequently, in this condition, the personnel dealing
with it should be concerned and should not touch the points with bare-hand. So, when the
device runs, the enclosures must be kept closed.

Note: In case there appears fault alarm buzzer sound during the test, press Off key on the
front panel to stop the alarm sound.

Abbreviation:
DMM: Digital Multi-meter: to measure voltage, current, frequency etc.

It is assumed that before starting the procedures, you have completed all necessary set-ups
accessing the CALIBRATIONS, SET VALUES and TEST SETTINGS menus over the LCD
front panel. It is also assumed that there is no load at the output.
INTRODUCTION:
In EnPower33 Silver model UPS, the inverter can be run in “open loop” regulation. In other
words the inverter voltage can be manually increased or decreased by following this manual.
This is only for test purpose to ensure that the inverter module is working.
PROCEDURES:
1. Shutdown the UPS. In order to do this stop the UPS by pressing the Off key over the
front panel. The UPS will pass to “Stop Mode” and only LED-1 will lit over the front
panel.

Turn Off the ON/OFF switch. Disconnect the batteries. Turn off the output circuit
breaker. Turn Off all the other circuit breakers.

2. Locate J3, a 1x4 pin connector at MIC7 card unit. Take out this female socket from its
connector. The other end of this connector is connected to the Static Switch thyristor
driver unit (either EN33-32-00 or TSUR3R1 card). This connector carries the static
switch triggering signal. During this test the static switch must not be triggered by the
driver, so this setup is vitally important.

3. Turn On the input circuit breaker. Turn on the On/Off switch. Wait till the UPS passes
to Stop Mode. Access submenu “7.1.5 TEST SETTINGS/ Inverter/ Regulation Type”.
Set it to “open loop”. Confirm by pressing the ENTER button. Access submenu “7.1.7
TEST SETTINGS/ Inverter/ Output Control”. Set it to “off”. Access submenu “7.2.5
TEST SETTINGS/ Bypass/ Synchron Control”. By pressing UP/DOWN button set it to
“off” and finally press ENTER button to confirm. Access submenu “7.1.6 TEST
SETTINGS/ Inverter/ Open Loop Value”. Bring it down to a very small value, for
example “10”.

4. Adjust your DMM to AC voltage measurement mode. Touch the probes across the
inverter U-phase & output neutal at cable 23 on top of it’s static switch.

5. Start the UPS by pressing ON button over the front panel. Wait till the UPS passes to
“Normal Mode” (LED-3 turns ON over the front panel). Since the Static Switch group
is not triggered, inverter voltage would appear only at cable 23, 24 and 25 but will not
be transferred to the output. Since the “7.1.6 TEST SETTINGS/ Inverter/ Open Loop
Value”is very small the UPS will produce a little voltage at its inverter output. Confirm
this by measuring across cable-23 & neutral, cable-24 & neutral and cable-25 &
neutral.

6. Increase the “7.1.6 TEST SETTINGS/ Inverter/ Open Loop Value” value by pressing
the UP and then ENTER button. Observe if the inverter voltage is increasing as well
or not in all three phases.

7. Continue increasing the Open Loop Value till the inverter voltages reach 220VAC
phase to neutral (at cable-23, 24 and 25). At this stage the Open Loop Value would
be around “070” (in some it is approx. “150”). So you have tested gradual increment
of Open Loop Value from “10”to “70”(or “150”) when the inverter voltages increased
from a few voltage to 220VAC.

8. When you are done then stop the UPS by pressing the OFF and ENTER buttons on
the front panel. When the UPS passes to “Stop Mode” turn Off the On/Off switch.
Connect the J3 connector to its respective place in MIC7: J3.

9. Turn ON the On/Off switch again. Wait till the UPS passes to “Stop Mode”. Access
the submenu “7.1.7 TEST SETTINGS/ Inverter/ Output Control”and check whether it
is “on” or not. If not then set it to “on”. Access submenu “7.1.5 TEST SETTINGS/
Inverter/ Regulation Type”and check for its value as “closed loop”. If not then set it to
“closed loop”. Access submenu “7.2.5 TEST SETTINGS/ Bypass/ Synchron Control”
and confirm it to be “on”.

10. Start the UPS by pressing the ON key over the front panel. See the normal operation
of the system.

11. During the above mentioned procedures if any unexpected event occurs please
report providing the necessary data. Please fill up the following table accessing the
”WARNINGS”menu and report.
