FOCUS OF LESSON: Challenge climbers to spell words as they climb.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (SPO):
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

P) Demonstrate climbing different levels and directions of the climbing wall by transferring
weight to their hands and feet for support on the wall. (NASPE S1.E8.3 ; MA CF 2.2
C) Identify different words related to the climbing wall unit based on the words they spell out
while climbing during station 2. ( NASPE S2.E3.3 ; MA CF 2.2)
A) Follow all of the climbing rules 100% and understand why they are so important for safety.
( NASPE S4.E5.3 ; MA CF 2. 7)

TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - During the lesson the teacher will:


→ Observe students 100% of the time so that they are following climbing rules
→ Inforce challenge by choice to the students while they climb
→ Allow students to collaborate in a group setting working at each station

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the
students in this class?
→ Two groups will be climbing at this station, make sure both groups are working well together
and on task
→ Important to remind the students the climbing wall rules.
→ Make sure students take off all jewelry.

climber, one letter at a time
Spotter → Spotting the climber so
he or she does not fall with hands
out at all times.
Recorder → Can check off each
letter after the climber touches it
on the wall.

been completed, students will rotate to
the next station of basket wall.

Closure: Teacher will tell students how
they did today. Next week, students will
be continuing to climb with more
climbing wall challenges. Students will
