(1921-2012)
Message from Chairman, IRMA
It is rightly said that India lives in its villages. The rural sector significantly contributes to the
national income of the country and supports the income and livelihoods of about 70% of the
population living in the rural areas.
To maximize the returns to the rural households, backward and forward linkages of the value chain
of the produce and services of the rural sector are required to be established, strengthened and
made more efficient by bringing about innovations in product, process and technology, supported
by enabling policy and regulatory framework. This task of rural transformation is required to be
carried out by competent and qualified professionals, having management skills to bring about
the desired changes.
Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), established by the father of the White Revolution,
Dr. Verghese Kurien in 1979 has been nurturing and developing a cadre of rural management
professionals who are traversing a path less travelled and are contributing in making changes in
the livelihoods of rural households.
IRMA has been making available committed and dedicated rural management professionals
through its flagship programme Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management and Fellowship
Programme in Rural Management. For the working professionals, short and long duration
Management Development Programmes are also organized.
The 15-month Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Rural) – PGDMX(R) launched
in 2019 has widened the scope of formal training to the experienced working professionals by
aptly blending classroom teaching with field work segments. The working professionals are more
likely to appreciate and put to use the gamut of managerial skills which are fostered at IRMA
through a well-designed course curriculum by well qualified and competent faculty. This course
would also equip the participants with the latest management tools and techniques for planning
and delivering innovative solutions for the rural sector.
Over the years, IRMA has established itself as the premier management institute in the country
by imparting management education to nurture the professionals for the rural sector. On behalf
of IRMA, I invite the experienced professionals to join the second batch of PGDMX(R) and be part
of the journey towards rural transformation by playing a pivotal role in rural and development
sector.

issue identified by a client organization from where the participant has been sponsored. A faculty guide will

the market, solving operational problems like routing of trucks for milk procurement, developing a new
business plan for a producers’ organization, etc. The projects can be both domestic and international.
