There are many illnesses and ailments that can befall a rabbit; but

Myxomatosis (AKA myxo)

To put it's symptoms in the simplest terms myxo blinds its victim in
the first few days, blocks its nose so it can’t breathe, forces it to
breathe through its mouth so it can’t eat and then lasts upto and over
14 days so the infection can spread through the rabbit's warren. It is
spread via drect contact and by insects such as fleas, mosquitos etc.
The myxo vaccine can be given when a rabbit reaches 6 weeks old;
and needs a booster every 6 months.

Symptoms

The first symptoms are generally discharge from the eyes and
swelling around head, ears and sometimes genitals. Within a fews
days the eyes may swell shut. The swelling can make eating,
drinking and breathing difficult. Lumps or nodules may also develop.
Secondary infections such as pasturella (snuffles) are common.
Death can occur within a few days to several weeks.

Viral Haemorraghic Disease (AKA VHD)

VHD causes the rabbit to literally haemorrhage (bleed) to death.

Sometimes symptoms are present; and sometime they aren't. VHD
is a much quicker kiler than myxo, often less than 48 hours after the
onset of fever. VHD is spread via pathogens, which means that it is
spread through direct contact between rabbits and also through
contaminated surfaces such as bedding, hutches and clothing. The
VHD vaccine can be given from 12 weeks of age and needs a
booster every 12 months.
