in Data Darbar suicide attack
LAHORE (APP): Atleast 10 people, including  four policemen,
were killed while 28 others injured in a suicide attack on a police
van at Gate 2 of the Data Darbar here on Wednesday.
Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Capt ® Arif Nawaz
Khan, talking to the media during his visit to the attack side, said
that it was a suicide attack which was carried out by a 15­16
year­old boy whose amputated hand had been recovered by the
law enforcement agencies.To a question, he said that seven ki­
logram of explosive material with ball­bearings was used in the
suicide jacket of local made while the attacker hit himself against
the Elite Force Police van and exploded the suicide jacket. He
said the suicide attack happened at 8:44am.
The deceased are head constable Muhammad Sohail of
Gujranwala, Head constable Shahid Nazir of Kasur, constable
Muhammad Saleem of Baghbanpura Lahore, Rafaqat, Rafiq and
four unidentified. The injured included four policemen­ Nawaz,
Ijazul Haq, M Ramazan, Kamran and others who were identi­
fied as Lubna Idrees, M Yousaf, Ghulam Fareed, Syed Dildar
Hussain, Aurangzen, Abdul Raheem, Haji Ibrahim, Sarwar Khan,
Shabbir, Faisal, Allah Ditta, Faryal, M Asif, Waqas, Ansar and
Faizan.  Meanwhile, Punjab  Chief Minister  Sardar  Usman
Buzdar along with Provincial Law Minister Raja Muhammad
Basharat and Minister Auqaf and Religious Affairs Syed Saeedul

LAHORE (INP): The suicide bomber of Data Darbar
blast, that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, has been
identified. According to details, the bomber identified as
Rafiq. He was aged around 14 to 16 years. He had come
to Data Darbar from an adjacent street. The explosive
material he used was locally made. He had ball bear-
ings on his jacket. The bomber identified with the help of
safe city cameras. The footage of the suicide bomber has
been provided to Counter Terrorism Department and
other investigation agencies.
Buzdar said that the government did not receive any specific
security threats regarding the Data Darbar suicide attack. The
information on different threats was a routine but no specific
threat regarding Data Darbar was received by the law enforce­
ment or intelligence agencies, he added. The chief minister said
that the police responded immediately with valour, adding that
culprits would soon be traced and apprehended by the police.

Government policy for
welfare organizations
World Red Crescent Day
Yesterday, the world Red Crescent day
was celebrated throughout the coun-
try along with whole the world. This
year, the subject of the Red Crescent
Day was “Together for humanity”. Ac-
cording to the Red Crescent sources,
number of its members in more than
170 countries around the world, is
more than 99 million, which are grow-
ing every year. The purpose to celebrate
this day is to tribute to the people of-
fering volunteer services in the medi-
cal and other fields for the welfare of
humanity. On the occasion Red Cres-
cent and other Governmental and
Non-Governmental organizations ar-
ranged walks, seminars, conferences,
workshops with the participation of
working NGOs and medical organiza-
tions for awareness of people and high-
light the role of Organization in wel-
fare of humanity during peace, war,
natural disasters, unexpected inci-
dents, and major accidents. It may be
noted that the World Red Cross Day is
celebrated every year in Pakistan in-
cluding all the member countries of UN
since 1967. So that the public can get
information about Red Crescent and
its activities.
Welfare institutions are the beauty
of any society, they play the role of al-
ternative to governmental institutions
in public welfare activities, the issues
which are ignored by the government
or where it cannot reach. These insti-
tutions do not get government patron-
age or funding, rather they work on self-
help basis, and they contribute for
welfare of the public. Unfortunately, in
the past two years, welfare organiza-
tions have faced difficulties in continu-
ing their services. They have to close
their projects due to different chal-
lenges, for which the scope of welfare
operations became limited. Most of the
institutions are facing problems like
freezing of funds, continuous process
of scrutiny and clearance. People vol-
unteering time and donating money
both are limiting their role, resulting
in widespread shortage of welfare ac-
tivities. If this practice continues wel-
fare institutions will start shutting
down. The deserving people who were
getting benefits from such welfare in-
stitutions may suffer again and their
sufferings will not be removed, and it
may also be difficult for the government
itself to overcome the issue.
More than 70% of the people in our
society are living below poverty line.
Due to increase in poverty, sense of de-
pression is increasing in the general
class and society is going towards in-
tolerance. Such welfare organizations
are the sole support of the white collar
people and brings them back to life by
helping them. Existence of these insti-
tutions is not less than a God’s gift for
our society. It is imperative to remove
any hurdles and challenges they are
facing, to bring them to the national
stream so that they can deliver services
to the deprived and deserving class.
It is important to mention here
that despite many challenges and
problems faced by many welfare or-
ganizations, they are doing their job.
Although their services are limited,
their resources have decreased, but
their journey continues. Though, ban
on foreign NGO’s has proved to be
good news for them, as our people
have examined these institutions and
started supporting them. This is a
positive change that should be appre-
ciated. Our Prime Minister Imran
Khan can understand charity and
welfare better than anyone else. We
request him, to take practical mea-
sures essential for the revival of the
welfare activities in the country. Be-
sides, the restrictions were imposed
on welfare institutions during the last
government may immediately be re-
moved. Our law enforcement agen-
cies had imposed sanctions on inter-
national NGOs on the name of secu-
rity, we have no concern with that,
but why ban on national NGOs? Why
they are still under such restriction?
The restrictions on all national NGOs
may be removed immediately. More-
over, freehand may be given to all
those organizations who want to work
for the wellbeing of the poor and de-
serving people.

Bank at the Al­Shifa Eye Trust here, he said the culture of

Al­Shifa’s Eye Bank has been established with the help
of Eversight, a non­governmental  organization from the
United States and has facilities to store cornea which are
transplanted to patients suffering with corneal blindness.
The president lauded Al­Shifa Eye Trust for the initia­
tive of providing quality and affordable services and said
corneal transplants would help alleviations of thousands of
patients in the country suffering with blindness.

2396  Pakistanis  detained  in

illegal immigration.
In a written replying to a

on varying  according  to  the
number of illegal  Pakistanis
entering Turkey. As on March
2019, 281 Pakistani prisoners
were imprisoned in Turkish jails
and  some  of  them  had  been
