Wilkie, Marie Angelique. (b.

1810)
Marie Wilkie was born circa 1810 at St. Laurent, Manitoba, the daughter of Alexander
Wilkie (b. 1776, Scotland) and Mezhekamakuikok (born 1781 at Pembina). Marie was the
younger sister of the famous Metis buffalo hunt leader Jean Baptiste Wilkie.

Marie first married Jean Baptiste Marcellais (b.c. 1796), the son of Jean Baptiste Marcellais
and Angelique (Assiniboine), on 6 September 1852 at Assumption, Pembina. Jean Baptiste was
one of the warriors with Cuthbert Grant at the Battle of Seven Oaks in 1816.

The family was enumerated in the Red River census of 1831 to 1835:

Children of Jean Baptiste Marcellais and Marie Wilkie were as follows:

 Louise, born 1825 in the Assiniboia Settlement she married Paul Boucher, son of Paul
Boucher and Francoise St.Germain, before 1851.She and Paul Boucher were enumerated
in the census on 15 July 1870 Oak Point, Manitoba, Canada. Also in the family: Julie
Boucher, Roger Boucher, Caroline Boucher, Paul Boucher, Alexandre Boucher, and
Marie Anne Boucher.

 Marie, born August 1830; baptized 14 October 1833 at St. Boniface; she resided
1851 Assumption, Pembina; described 1863 as ‘mixed blood’ and resided Pembina;
denied treaty 1868 Pembina ND; resided 1884 Olga ND; resided 1892 vicinity of Turtle
Mountain Reservation, Belcourt, Rolette Co. ND; described 1900 as ‘Indian’ (7/8
Chippewa), Turtle Mountain Reservation, Belcourt, Rolette Co. ND; Marie died 8 March
1906.
 Pierre; born 1832 Winnipeg, he married Sophie Faille, daughter of Toussaint Faille and
Angelique Contree, before 1857; married Therese Constant 1863 The Pas. Pierre left Red
River 1861 for The Pas, took treaty with wife and 2 children (Lizette and Baptiste) as no.
106 The Pas Band; resided on The Pas Band Reserve; discharged 1887 from treaty with
family in 1887 and was required to move off reserve. He was a labourer with the HBC.
 Sophie. Born 14 November 1834 St. Boniface, Red River; died 17 January 1865 St.
Francois Xavier, Red River; buried 19 January 1865 St. Francois Xavier, Red River.

Marie next married Toussaint Faille or Foye (b.c. 1791) sometime before 1846 in St. Boniface.
They had two children:

 Julienne, born June 10, 1846, she married Joseph Lapointe.


 Leon, born September 10, 1852.
