Intro. To World War One on the War Front:
-World War One was a ‘Total War’
which involved economies,
governments and civilian populations
to an extent never before seen in
history.

-Involved 32 nations: documents


exist in Europe regarding this war
in over 30 languages.

-Technological innovation changed


the way war was fought. New weapons
such as machine guns, tanks,
explosives, chemical weapons,
airplanes and radios reshaped 20th
century warfare.
They shall not grow old: British and German Soldiers
Gallery Walk Activity:
Today, you will participate in a gallery walk activity. You
will need:

-1 Writing Utensil
-Your ‘gallery walk investigation’ classwork sheet
-At least 3 Post-it Notes

*You will have approximately 5 minutes to explore each photo

Stations #1, #2 and #3
1. Put your initials on each of your post-it notes.

2. Explore the photos at your assigned station.

3. Carefully read the quotes from at least 3 of the images.

4. Answer the guiding ? at your station, using your post-it notes to


record and display your responses. Complete your ‘gallery walk
investigation’ classwork sheet.

5. After 5 minutes, you will move to a new station.

1. Choose a poem, image or letter to analyze (whatever is
most interesting to you!)

2. Study your letter, poem or artwork thoroughly

3. DISCUSS with your group: What can you tell about the time
period, the artist and/or the writer?
Thinking Like an Historian:

we viewed before?
