For this months site visit my mom and I went to the Newseum in Washington DC. Before
I went I printed out the guide for all of the exhibits, so that I would be able to use my time
effectively and spend time in the exhibits that are most related to my topic. I knew that I wanted
to go to the News Corporation and News History exhibit, The Time Warner World News exhibit,
and The Bloomberg Internet, Tv, and Radio Gallery exhibit. In the News History exhibit there
were newspaper articles from the beginning of American news. I was able to see how headlines
and the type of information that was shared throughout all of the big events in American history.
This was very cool because news has changed a lot over the last 200 years. The world news
exhibit was very enlightening and also shocking. This exhibit was a giant map and countries
were divided up into 3 colors; red, yellow, and green. Countries that were made out of green
planks have freedom of speech, countries that were made out of yellow planks have limited
freedom of speech, and countries made of red planks have no freedom of speech. The amount of
countries that were made of yellow and red planks seemed insanely high to me. The only areas
that were green planks were North American and western Europe. I did not realize until then just
how limited free speech was around the world, so I feel very lucky live in a place like the US. As
this relates to my research it means that the North America and western Europe are probably the
main contributors to fast fashion since they have the most access to locate and share information.
The internet, tv, and radio gallery was interesting because I was able to see how the invention of
the internet affected how news was spread. There was a whole plack dedicated to how the
explosion of social media has affected the flow of information. I enjoyed my time at the
