INTRO
JET AIRWAYS
Jet, with its headquarters in Mumbai, India, 
Began as an air taxi 
It operated with just 24 flights across 12
destinations initially, but showed exceptional
growth with more than 357 daily flights to
about 62 domestic and international
destinations in 2008. 
It first listed in the National Stock Exchange
(NSE) in the year 2005. 
June 2008, it operated over 370 daily flights
to about 68 destinations both in India and
abroad including San Francisco, New York,
Toronto, Singapore, Brussels, London
(Heathrow), Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kuala
Lumpur, Colombo, Bangkok, Kathmandu,
Dhaka, Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat, Abu Dhabi,
Dubai, etc.
Best flight company by having the highest
number of share than others competitors. It
seen on 2006 Jet Airways hold 30.4% of
market share of airlines in India.

It is turbulent times in Indian aviation industry and rising in fuel price.
By early 2008, aviation industry faced an 18.5% dip in domestic air
traffic. The growth in year had plunged to 7.5% from 33% in 2007.
By September 2008, aviation industry reeling under pressure of
economic crisis and rising cost. Fuel companies rise the price of
aviation turbine fuel used by domestic airlines by 18% in June 2008.
It increases about 40-50% of operating cost of every airlines.
PURPOSE
a. To analyzed the HR problems faced by Jet
Airways in 2008,
b. To understand the rationale behind the
pay cuts initiated at the company.

MORAL QUESTION

1. Why should it take action only against lower


grade staffs?
2. Why management acting unilaterally in a
sudden time without any discuss with Employee?
PROBLEM

In late 2008,  Jet  Airways  decided


 to  lay off  more  than  1000
 employees  to streamline its
operation. The first phase saw the
airline-showing door to 850 cabin
crew members, Jet was faced with
immense criticism and opposition by
various organizations and political
parties.

The way that management does in solving problems by creating a good working relationship:
1.   Establish employee work committee

2.   Make employee handbook

3.   Professional wage system

4.   Create a conducive working atmosphere

5.   Accommodate complaints, suggestions, and employee criticism

 In general, several ways can be taken to improve the morale of labor (Erni R. Ernawan, 1997,)
namely:
1.   Provide compensation or remuneration to labor in a reasonable portion

2.   Create safe and pleasant working conditions.

3.   Improve the worker's spirituality

4.   Paying attention to the future of workers including developing knowledge and skills

5.   Communicate all information honestly and openly with workers.
