8th Grade - Unit 1: The Diary of Anne Frank Wed. Feb 6, 2019 (Day B)

Objectives:
CO: I can complete a KWL chart about a novel we will be reading together as a class.

LO: I can read a question about a novel and write my opinion. I will discuss with my classmates and teacher.

Academic Vocabulary: ghetto, annex, Nazi


Sequence:
State objectives (Content and Language), Review Agenda (5)
Read Aloud (10)
KWL
Building Background: This entire lesson will be building background as the students are not familiar with this text
yet.
Reading: Students will read the questions, "What do you know about TDOAF?" "What do you want to learn from
TDOAF?"
Writing: The students will fill in their KWL charts individually.
Wrap Up Activity: (10) We will create a class KWL chart based on student responses.

Differentiation:
ELL groups (WIDA 1-2) will have alternate cards/prompts. These are formatted using the WIDA Can Do
descriptors. I will also discuss things with my 1 and 2 students before they would have to share out in front of the
class.
SIOP Strategies:
"KWL" is a WIDA strategy
Different leveled prompts used based on WIDA level
