Internet Poem

Poem one: “Internet illusions of paradise is really hell.” by: storiesuntold

You cant believe all of what you see

you cant believe all of what you hear that is there,

The net is a cesspool of corruption and scams

freely there and they your life they want to share .

It is the ultimate trap for the young

you know not the person you are speaking to,

Oh they will promise you and woo you away from your homes,

walking into horrific danger and you haven't a clue.

Who are your young communicating with

you might ask if their privacy while young left on only them to choose,

They will be asked to send money or meet them

blind to what those on the net are truly up to .

They start refusing to listen, thinking its so smart

they want what they want believing her friends wouldn't li,e

only she is being groomed being swept away

more than often they leave in the darkness of night.

The awakening and the truth which many warned ,

found alone shared by rape or loss of life in a hell storm.

Whisked away drugged becoming a sex slave ,

in a filthy room tied to a bed her hell now self made .

No one was told where you were headed

therefore no one knows where to search,

no one was allowed to see your activities on your computer out to hurt,

and to those you ran to your life carried little worth .

Words typed for many on the computer

are words typed using you as prey,

they will tell you everything you want to hear

every single day.

They will tell you stories of how sad they are

stories of abuse and shame,

pulling you into their web of deception

it is to them a deadly game.

How many pedophiles have you daily embraced

how many terrorists from countries afar,

How many have promised you everything

to not believe them is too hard.

That's why the young need adult supervision

that's why computers more often are the gateway to hell,

children are the target

for its looking for souls to sell .

Strangers are allowed to know everything about you

things you wont allow your family to hear,

and from it you are being profiled by the worst of the worst

and trust me they know how to guide you and you rush in without fear.

Devices: The poem shows a lot of dark themes. Specifically, all of the bad things that can take
place on the internet. It uses imagery to put pictures in your head about the dangerous terrorists
that have a presence on the internet, and the fact that computers can lead to abductions or
other devious acts. The author heavily uses his point of view about how toxic the internet can
be. He uses personification when he says that the words that you type can kill you.

Poem Two: “Social media is a lie” By: thelemonpolice

What a pretty holiday

I wish that I had gone
But did you know that all they did
was post it on their phones?

What amazing friends they have

I wish that I had more
but actually these people have just met
and are a bore
What a funny club night
I feel left out again
Well maybe it's another way
to drown out all the pain

What a lovely boyfriend

He bought her lovely gifts
but do you know that he's repaying
her for all his sins?

Pretty pretty wedding pictures

for everyone to see
did you know he sometimes
"accidentally" makes her bleed

happy shopping family

filling up a cart
did you know the parents
can't grow love in their hearts?

Happy, smiling faces

I wonder what they've seen
and why they have to force a smile
on pictures on this screen

Lovely posing woman

why do you hold your breath?
How many pictures did it take
to make you look your best?

Is it worth it? Is it needed?

to get approval from your 'friends'?
Are we worthy? Are we needed?
does it matter end?

Devices: The author uses their point of view to show how the social media has been taking us
away from the traditional ways of communicating. They also portray that many families show
happiness but they aren’t actually happy. They also state that meeting new people isn’t as special
as it used to be because you can simply open your phone and talk to just about everyone. They
also question how important the approval of your friends is in the long run, verses just living life
how you think you should.

Poem 3: Social Media by: Patricia Garcia Howard Bramble

I know your main objective

Was to keep us all socially connected
But not all of us are accepted
There are platforms
That make us feel
Lonely and rather neglected
These groups are so picky and selective
Not everyone is kind and respective
I guess this is expected
No one is safe or protected
Social media don't get me wrong
Your brand is effective and strong
Sometimes there are groups
That do get along and their comments
Makes us feel like we belong
Social Media, I like your objective
But could you make a way for those who are weak,
Stress and depress
Bullied and vulnerable to be accepted and protected
After all everyone wants to be accepted.

Devices: The author used imagery to show how the internet is used as a great way to connect
with others but it also has darker places and people that can result in cyberbullying. But she also
uses light rhyming in the poem that keep a nice flow going. She uses stanzas as well to help the
rhyming. Overall, this poem yet again shows the negative effects of the internet.

Analysis: The most used theme that is shown across all of the poems is how negative and dark
the internet can truly be. While it does have its high points, it is riddled with trolls and bullies
that can skew our perception of the way we see things. If you aren’t used to seeing such things
on the internet you can have a really negative effect on your brain. And even if you are used to it,
it can still affect you. It also touches on how we think that our friends see us on the internet, or
how you can judge people for the things that they post or upload on the internet.
