Dear Doctors, who rather discriminate than to do their job,
This letter is to inform you and not single you out. And maybe one less person would

have to go through it. However, I feel that everyone should be treat fairly when getting treated

for any health issue because if they aren’t treated properly there is a possibility that they will get

worse or die. When my sister first thought she was pregnant she was super excited. Took three

pregnancy test and eventually went to the hospital to get a pregnancy test. A few weeks later she

was told she miscarried. She was told that in a few weeks the baby would eventually come out

on its own. After a few days she was in a lot of pain, so she went to a different hospital where

she was told that she was indeed still pregnant.

I went to every appointment my sister had when she was pregnant and made sure I

listened after that. She would always tell you she was short of breath and she sometimes felt as

though she couldn’t walk. Nothing was done about it because she was told its normal.

Meanwhile, my mother is a nurse and she know about pregnancy well enough because she has

three children.

However, one night she was showering and started bleeding, so she went to the hospital

and was told by you that the baby’s lungs aren’t strong enough. She had to take steroid to build

the baby lungs up. My sister had the baby a month early due to the steroid. But only if you would

have investigated her concerns better my sister probably would have had her baby at the

expected due date.

After she gave birth, she felt like she couldn’t breathe at all, she looked really scared. She

kept calling for you because she knew something was wrong. Only so the nurse to say that she

was fine. But my sister knows her body, eventually she pasted out and things started to go down

hill from there. My family and I had to leave the room and a couple of hours later we learned that

I could’ve lost my sister.

Serena Williams went through something like this. After giving birth she was having

complications. She told the nurse and doctor, but they thought it was the medication talking for

her when Serena told them what she needed. Because after all she knows her body well enough

and she has had health issues in the past. Instead they did the total opposite and that caused her to

rupture her c-section wound and she couldn’t breathe. When they finally listened to her, they

found out that she had several small blood clots in her lungs. Serena could have died if they

didn’t do anything fast enough. Serena Williams story shows how hard it is for black women in

American no matter your level in society.

Why do you think black people in America struggle with health issues? They are not

taken seriously. Doctors tend to think we’re being dramatic and overacting. I think every person

in America should be treated the same when it comes to health care.

Black people have higher rates for heart diseases, stroke, cancer, asthma, influenza and

pneumonia, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and miscarriages than whites. The reason for black people

having the highest rate in having all kinds of health problems is because we are not given the

same type of treatment as the white man.

More women of color are starting to speak out on this issue. I hope when you read this

you can maybe change that. You can start by listening and doing something when we explain

what is happening with our bodies.

Sincerely,
A person that want to see a change!
