Lesson Plan

Objective: 1. Students will be able to identify what is racism. 2. Student will learn different

treatments toward different races. 3. Student will understand how racism has changed overtime.

Material: Racism activity, YouTube video “Being Black by Jane Elliot”, YouTube video “Jane

Elliot on Real Anti-Racism Activist”,

Instructions: Start out with racism activity, How much racism have you experienced?

Racism Activity: Students will be more aware of how much racism they’ve experienced.

Slide 1: Introduction, Name, Why did I choose this topic ?


Slide 2:
What is Racism?
 Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race
based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
Slide 3:
 Treatment of Blacks. Blacks were basically property of the Whites. They were workers
with no rights. They grew crops and raised children without any way out of it, Slavery
was even legalized in 1641. Blacks were so profitable they were even considered “Black
Gold” at some point. Light skinned women were sold as prostitutes or became mistresses
to their owners. (PBS article)
Slide 4: Treatment of Native Americans
 Whites wanted Native Americans out because it interfered with their expansion. They did
not understand their culture and their way of living. They went through serious measures
to get rid of them even killed innocent men, women, and children. ( The Enduring

Slide 5: Treatment of Asians and Hispanics
 Asians and Hispanics were unskilled labor workers, They were overworked and
underpaid. Asians and Hispanics had to fight for voting, employment and equal rights.(

 After September 11th incident every Middle Eastern was a terrorist. They were denied
services in variety of places and discriminated against Middle Eastern. (Washington Post,
Muslims are facing civil rights crisis in America).
