a. Introduction (10 minutes):
Warm-Up
Students will: (3 minutes)
Grab a worksheet upon entering the class and begin answering question one. “What invention are you
going to talk about and why did you choose this invention?” They will have been thinking about this all
unit. Their answer is what they will use to guide their research during today’s class.

Class will: (2 minutes)

Share what invention they have chosen and why, with at least four people. Hint: this is the answer to
question one.
Teacher will: (2 minutes)
Regroup and ask for 2 volunteers to share their answers to question one aloud. The teacher will be
looking for any mistakes, and providing answers to any questions during this time.

Class Will: (1 minute)

Discuss any concerns that they have about the assignment, then have them share with their partner what
the first thing they are going to look-up on the computer will be when they go on google scholar.

Activity: (115 minutes)

Teacher Will: (10 minutes)
Lead the class into creating a PowerPoint presentation. Explain to the class a step-by-step breakdown
of how to login into the computer, open PowerPoint, and save their document.

Students will: (60 minutes)

Research information using google scholar to find a famous invention and answer who invented it,
how, why, and does it still have a purpose? They will need to follow the rubric to help them answer all
of the questions and design their 45 second-1 minute presentation. Each slide should include bullet
points with text, and an image. They will have 60 -minutes to create an individual PowerPoint about an
invention.

Teacher will:
Float the classroom asking students what invention they chose to research. The teacher will also be
available to answer questions.

Teacher will: (5 minutes)

After 60-minutes the computer time will be stopped. The teacher will walk the class through the
process of logging in to their emails and sending the assignment to my email Drink1@unlv.nevada.edu.

Class will:
Send their presentations in order of their names on of the sign-up sheet. The teacher will check off each
students name as they send their presentation to the email.

Do a 45 second to 1-minute presentation about a famous inventor. While each student is presenting the
reset of the class will be filling in a worksheet about each invention.
