Introduction:
(Part
1
–
10
minutes)
Students
will
participate
in
whole
class
a
lesson
that
introduces
and
teaches
the
skill
of
multiplying
by
two
(including
real
world
experiences
of
a
second
grader)
using
an
interactive
flipchart
on
a
Promethean
Board.
Key
vocabulary
will
be
reviewed
during
this
time.
I
will
teach
the
skill
while
asking
students
to
come
up
to
the
board
to
solve
a
variety
of
problems.
Body:

2

minutes)
Students
will
use
their
individual
white
boards
to
solve
multiplication
problems
like

by
drawing
a
picture
or
using
an
array.
They
will
also
practice
writing
a
multiplication
sentence
and
solving
it
for
word
problems.

walk
around
to
assist
and
monitor
student
understanding.

Star
by
solving

facts
without
making
any
errors.

fluency
for
multiplying
by

Closure:

final
word
problem

students

findings

3. Select a number fact (Example: 1 through 12 for Whole Numbers Gym, 1/32 through 7/8 for Fractions Gym, etc).
4. Click the blue START button to start the clock. The amount of time given varies among the different Gyms.
5.
Click
on
the
wheel
that
shows
the
correct
equation
to
make
the
TARGET
NUMBER
shown
at
the
top
of
the
card
in
white.
As
you
click
correct
wheels,
the
Strength
Meter
bar
will
expand
accordingly.
6. If you select an incorrect wheel, the Strength Meter returns to zero, and you must click the Timer/Start button to try again.
7. If you successfully solve all 12 facts, you will earn 4 stickers, and a Silver Star will appear for that number fact.
After
you
earn
a
Silver
Star,
you
may
try
to
earn
a
Gold
Star
for
that
same
fact.
Gold
Stars
are
earned
if
you
solve
24
facts
in
the
time
given
without
making
any
mistakes.
You
will
earn
6
stickers
with
each
Gold
star.
If
you
make
a
mistake
while
trying
to
earn
a
Gold
Star,
you
will
need
to
start
again.
Once
a
Gold
Star
is
earned,
no
additional
stickers
are
given
for
repeat
plays
of
that
number
fact.
