1st line is notes.
S is shadja or sA r is komal rishabh or re

d is komal dhaivat or Dha D is shuddha dha
n is komal niched or ni N is shuddha nee

Mandra saptak - the lower octave below S is shown by a dot following the note as
D. or n.
Madhya saptak - the normal octave - is not shown separately.
Taar saptak or octave above the normal N - is shown by a ' following the note as
S' or R'.

Notes are separated by spaces. Notes forming one word are to be sung or played in
a single beat (mAtrA) - all at equal length. If any note is longer, it is shown by
a - following the note.
For e.g.
P indicates P for 1 beat.
P - means pa is to be held got 2 beats.
nD means n and D would be half beat each
PnP means p, n and then P are to be sung one third beat each.
PDPm means P, D, P and m are all quarter of a beat.
Pn-P means P is quarter, n half beat and again P is quarter beat.

The notes are divided by bars of the taal. So teen taal notes will be four bars of
four mAtrAs each while ektAl would be six bars of 2 mAtrAs each or Dadra would be
2 bars of 3 mAtrAs each.
On the third line, the sum, khaki and taali of the taal are shown as o for khaki,
X for sum and taali number for taali other than sum.
