THE TRUMPET CALL 1

Our Mission: To love Jesus Christ and to share His Love

Our Vision: To be a Christian community where Christ is transforming lives
East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church Volume V Issue 19 May 12th, 2019

Our church staff is going through a period of transition. Several weeks ago, I informed you of
the resignation of Mike Corey, our Financial Secretary and IT person. Then came the
resignations of Rob Coyle, Facilities Manager and Bob Lee, weekday sexton. Late last week,
we received word that our Church Administrator, Jill Teaford, is stepping down, effective May
17. You may wonder, “what is happening? Is there a connection between all of these
resignations?” The answer to that is, no, there is not, but it is a bit overwhelming to have to
deal with so many position openings all at once. Happily, Jill will continue after her official end date as a
consultant, because there is so much involved in this position and many things which need to happen on a
regular basis (payroll, financial updates, etc.). Jill will continue to function as a consultant for our church for as
long as needed and until a replacement can be hired.

Obviously, this resignation affects all of us very deeply, and I can tell you the staff is saddened by Jill’s leaving.
Jill has done so much for our church in her more than two-and-a-half years of employment with ESUMC. She
has created new procedures and protocols and new forms for our use. She has supervised our maintenance
staff, secretary, financial secretary, and IT person. More recently, she has been instrumental in the rollout of
Servant Keeper. Her husband, Ron, has been a huge resource in the many areas of Information Technology
where we have needed him. Her leaving will be a huge loss for our church!

On the other hand, Jill believes God is opening up new doors of opportunity for her and Ron and we wish her
the very best. We know God will use her for His Glory and will bless her in exciting new ways. Jill goes with all of
our prayers and best wishes. Please pray for God to lead us to someone who can be our new administrator, as
well as the to the right people for these other positions. In the meantime, our Staff Parish Relations Team will
continue to review applications for all available positions, and warmly welcomes the Congregation to apply, or
share any personal recommendations they might have. Interested in applying? Please contact Jenni Poole.

This Sunday, Scott will be preaching on Mother’s Day as we begin a new sermon series, Wonderful Women of
Faith. He will start with Esther in the Old Testament, and next week I continue with Esther before we move on to
Deborah and Ruth in following weeks. We will have a baptism on Mother’s Day: Emalyne Sloan Fenner will be
baptized at the 8:30 am service. She will be joined by her proud parents, Courtney
and Jonathan Fenner and grandparents, Bob and Bobbi,
Howes. Come this Sunday and celebrate with the
Fenners and hear an inspiring message for Mother’s
Day!

Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Jim

Grief Share Program “Support”
Have you ever wondered how you can encourage, support
and minister to a friend or family member that recently lost a
loved one? Maybe it’s a co-worker, or someone you know
closely from your neighborhood or Church. Losses like this
happen all around us, how will we respond to those in need?
Often times, when someone loses a loved one, people flock
to the grieving and genuinely offer their condolences, comfort
and support to the grieving family and friends left behind. And
though that expression of love is greatly appreciated, it can
sometimes feel short lived in the lengthy season of grief a individual is left to process and work through. The Grief-
Share lends a unique opportunity for people—just like you— to walk alongside someone who’s grieving, lending
them “just a little more” loving support as they attend the seminars. It could be just a few classes, or possibly all of
the 13 (if you feel so inclined), but the main focus, is simply to invite & support your family/friend/coworker by coming
with them to GriefShare (at least initially). There, you’ll watch a video seminar and hopefully help put their heart and
mind at ease, simply by the blessing of your presence.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Paul beckons the disciples of Christ: “...encourage and build each other up...” Do you need
a little of that right now? If so, we sincerely encourage you to reach out to Rachael Thompson, ESUMC’s Director of
Congregational Care at rthompson@esumc.net Or perhaps, you, being a disciple of Christ, can think of someone
who really needs that “encouragement and building up” in the midst of their grief. Please prayerfully take some time
to consider how the Lord would have you reach out to this individual; and, if lending your support at GriefShare is
something you’re able to do. Think about it, pray about it—act in love.

NEW SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

Audio Visual Volunteer Team | May 2019

OVERVIEW
ESUMC members are being invited to become part of our A/V ministry. As you may know, we are investing in
many exciting improvements and repairs to our Audio and Video ministry. These include new equipment and the
creation of a streaming online presence. These improvements have been led by Charlie Rajnai, working closely
with the Worship Planning Team and Trustees. Now we seek to include more of our members in becoming a vital
part of the improved ministry. This is a new opportunity for anyone interested or curious about the technology.

GOALS
1. Make the Audio Visual ministry an inspired and exciting part of the worship experience for more members.
2. Offer one on one training by our current staff and volunteers who have years of experience.
3. Teach rewarding skills in audio, video and computers that can be carried into other fields of work and lei-
sure.
4. Offer opportunities to active members who are of high school age and up.

aged as are current professionals and retirees.
