Outline – clear outline

Theory foundation – Shin Rong Yang (P1)--- good pronunciation, elaborate on points

Why, what, how?

Act: why: ask question why

What strategies?: 23 strategies: explicit (beginner, four step), incidental, independent

Incidental: words in context, -what if confusion occurs?

Strenght: provide info on what level students suitable to this approach?

Independent strategies:

How: Example? festival? (if students have enough resources to discuss, they won’t have to learn the
word festival); give definition from dictionary? Is it necessary to give definition from the dictionary?

Disucss without context? The discuss question is too vague; give dic definition? Good thing is let
student how to use them?--> It’s like festival is the topic not the vocab learning?

What if the class is a mixed of learning styles?- not enough examples of teaching activities;
should have one for each strategies, the example is not really good?

Second presenter: Yingwen Liu (Anita) a bit too fast; do not relate to the previous part (although at
the end of the first one; distinguish method from strategies/approach

Culturing the ability of Vocab learning: misudnetstand the term? What is the most important to
master these approaches? Apply method; culturaling the ability; key ability for vocacbulary learning

Did not mention the methods and talk about why and how apply methods?

Conclusion

Introduce again the three vocabulary learning strategies: What is the most important to master
these approaches? (Question a bit vague,; culture is the key ability? )

Culturing : elaboration; fluency; Guessing

Part 2: why apply?what are method? What are the features? -a bit repeatirng? Overlapping with
the previous section?

Methods: rote memorization, keyword method, semantic mapping?- what is the different
between methods and strategies?

Semantic mapping:

Not enough examples of teaching activities?

Third presentors:

What is vocabulary? Active and passive vocabulary? ----- shouldn’t it be put at the beginning of the
presentation
What are techniques and activities for vocabulary teaching? Word detective, semantic maps, word
wizard? (do you distinguish between strategies, methods and activities)

Presentation structure not logical; she signs during presentation, lack of enthusiasm, if the presenter
is even bored with his or her presentation how can students feel motivated to listen; lots of example

A bit overlapping with the previous

Classification and definition of vocab should be introduced in the first part

It would be better with more visual helps make it easier to imagine the sample activities

Plan – train – test – teach is still abstract and vague; see specific creative activities

Key techniques

Creative activities with videos!

Presneter 3: Teachnology; CALL, why CALL?

Key words note:

Include personal experiences

SKELL corpus

Need more examples to elaborate (speaker 2)--- mappling used in teach vs consolidation

Good- have comparision
