Unit III - Word Processing

1. Define Paragraph.
Paragraphs are used to break continuous text to one or more sentences.
2. What is an alignment?
It is the placement of text with in a section of a document to enhance its readability. There are
four types of alignment left, right, center and justify.
3. What are Tab Stops?
Tab Stops are the locations at which the cursor stops after the tab key has been pressed. There
are five types of Tab Stops – left, right, center, bar and decimal.
4. Define Indentation.
It is the process of increasing or decreasing the space between the left and right margins of a
paragraph. There are four types of indent:
(a) Left Indent – It indicates the space between the paragraph and the left margin.
(b) Right Indent – It indicates the space between the paragraph and the right margin.
(c) First Line Indent – It is used to indent the first line of a paragraph.
(d) Hanging Indent – It indicates how the text of a paragraph lines up below the first line.
5. What is Line Spacing?
It is the vertical distance between the two lines.
6. On which tab does the Paragraph dialog box launcher exist?
Home Tab
7. What is the difference between Header and Footer?
In a document, title of the document appears at the top of every page and is called the Header.
Text appearing at the bottom of every page is called the footer. This option is available under
Insert Tab.
8. What are styles?
It is a predefined combination of various formatting features and types, like font style, colour
and size of a text that is applied to the selected text in a document, to quickly change its
appearance. It is available under Home Tab.
9. Define template.
It refers to a sample document which already has some details in the form of picture or text and
can be edited to be used in the word Processing text. It is present under File tab – New – Sample
templates.
10. Differentiate between Page Break and Section Break.
Page break helps to separate contents between pages, where as Section Break help in splitting
the document into sections, thus making the txt readable and presentable. CTRL + Enter is the
keyboard shortcut to insert Page Break at the pointed location. This option is available under
Page layout tab.
11. What are the steps to add Column Break
(a) Click on the text where you want to insert the Page Break.
(b) Select the Break option on the Page layout tab in the Page set Up group.
(c) Click on the column option from the drop down menu.
12. What is Text Wrapping?
It facilitates the wrapping of text around the object embedded included on a page. This option is
available under Page layout tab. Options available under Wrap Text are Square, In Line with
Text, Through.
13. What are the different types of section Break?
(a) Next page – It starts a new section on the next Page.
(b) Continuous - It starts a new section on the same Page, at the current position.
(c) Even Page - It starts a new section on the next even numbered page.
(d) Odd Page - It starts a new section on the next odd numbered page.
14. Explain the way to delete the Page Breaks in a document.
Click on the Section Break / Page Break and press delete on your keyboard.
15. What is subscript and super script?
The subscript option places the text slightly lower than the normal text position where as
Superscript places the text slightly higher than the normal text position
16. What is formatting?
Changing the appearance of text is formatting.
17. Explain all the options available under Change case option in MS – WORD.
(a) Sentence Case – The first word of the sentence will be converted to a capital letter.
(b) Lower Case – Selected text will be converted to small letters.
(c) Upper Case - Selected text will be converted to capital letters.
(d) Capitalize each word – The first character in all the words of the selected sentence will be
converted to capital letters.
(e) Toggle Case – Small letters will be converted to upper and capital letters will be converted
to small.
18. Fill in the blanks:
(a) To insert an image from a file, click on Insert tab and select the Picture button in the
Illustrations group.
(b) The clip Art option is available under Insert Tab in illustrations group.
(c) Image Compression is a process of reducing the file size.
(d) Clip Art is a collection of pictures or images that can be imported into a document.
(e) The wrap text option is present under Format / Page Layout tab in the arrange group.
(f) The default text wrapping for a picture is IN Line with Text.
(g) To embed an Excel spreadsheet, Select the Insert tab and click on Object option in the Text
group.
(h) If you want to edit an embed object , you have to double click on it.
19. Define Drop Cap.
It is a text formatting feature, which enlarges the first character of a line to an extent that it
drops down by two or more lines. It is present under Insert tab – Text – Drop Cap.
20. Define shapes.
It is a drawing feature that helps you to draw different shapes, like stars , banners , callouts etc.
It is available under Shapes button he Illustrations group on the Insert tab.
21. How will you place text in a shape?
Right click on the object and select option add text from the menu.
